Tall Gable End Framing?

My pole-building shop will have a center section that's 24' wide with an eave height of 17' and a ridge height of 21'.

Can I frame the gable end wall with 10' studs, breaking up the wall with double top plates? I'm sure I'll also need appropriate Simpson hangars/clips (in FL).

The engineer did not include a section view showing the framing for a gable end in the drawings he provided. He also did not specify which connectors to use anywhere, but rather said, "Simpson or equivalent."

If you are using trusses, simplify life and have them build 2pc gable end (endwall) trusses. Its a completely different design with all vertical members, usuallly 2x4s, 24" on center to allow nailing of 8' sheet goods. However its build to exactly the same size as the others.

I used basic Simpson flat straps to connect the bottom chord of the endwall truss to the double top plate and ideally down to the studs below. The other trusses were H1Z uplift connectors, one per side, that's fairly small and uses just a couple of nails as compared to the many nails of the endwall straps. Then you can also potentially bridge across the joint with the sheeting and nail it off thru the studs, double top plate and bottom chord.

It's going to be 2x6 studs. The trusses are metal and will have attached clips for studs to be attached to the gable rafters. This means that I only have to frame the 17' portion...

I would not put a hinge point in the middle of a wall without having it engineered.

Following your advice, I emailed my engineer. He responded saying that since the wall sections will be attached to the posts on both ends, platform framing would work, or balloon framing would also work. No suggestions on clips/hangers.

I'll find some longer studs.
