I just extended my shed to add a solar equipment room as well as a new roof that is able to maximaize solar panels.
The interior is now 12 feet high on one side and 12 feet long. This shed will just have lawn tractor, generator, tools, etc. Outdoor stuff. Some heavy some not. How to best utilize this wall? In my garage i did a mezzanine accessed by a ladder. But in a shed there usually isn't that much floor space. I doubt a sliding library ladder will work for the same reason. I feel just hanging stuff on the wall won't be a great use of the space. Anybody have a situation like this that figured it out?

Built-in shelving. Say 2' deep above head height. Lower area can be open or shallow (to preserve floor space).

i just had a thought off of that. problem is how to safely access without having to drag out ladder. I think i can make cubby shelving and on the vertical supports put grabrails all the way up. So cubby's are steps of the ladder. hmmm

I think a dedicated small ladder is the better solution. You can even make your own to get the height to match your shelving. Think of a simple ladder that has hooks at the top so they lay against the outer edge of the top shelf. Get the height perfect so you hold it at an excessive angle, lay it against the shelf and then ease it to the floor so you always get the angle you want.

i'll figure something out. an 8 foot fiberglass ladder maybe if i don't make one. Also thinking of making the lower shelves a foot deeper and having a one foot walking plank to get side to side.

The big box stores usually have specials on ladders during Black Friday sales or look on FBMP for a decent used one.

A simple 6 footer will get it done most of the time
