Ok, in the thread below a discussion on tamper proof Torx fastners was suggested. What are some automotive uses for tamper proof fastners? I've been amused at seeing tamper proof Torx fastners used on rest room dividers since I have trouble visualizing someone trying to steal those, but I wonder about automotive uses.

It is to keep people from F.....in' with those screws, not everyone brings a book to occupy themselves. Ever see things missing/vandalized around a urinal? Covers, handles, deodorizer tubes, etc. all gone.

Mopar put tamper resisant screws on their radios, made them hard to get out in the junkyard. The City of Toronto puts "one way" heads on screws that hold the stainless steel tethering chains on their street re-cycling bin lids. Guess so you cannot swipe that 8" length of chain.

License plates.

Right! When I was on vacation in Florida, I had my license plates stolen out of the motel parking lot. The management told me that some Europeans on vacation collect them. That is probably what happened, because mine were the only ones from WVa; they probably didn't have them in their collection. When I contacted law enforcement about the loss of my plates, they acted like I was the criminal, but that is another story.

When I worked in the aerospace industry in Calif. people stole latches and hinges from the company restrooms, even though they had supposedly tamperproof fasteners.

You'll see tamper proof Torx fasteners on sensor mounting screws.

I had to buy a special T20 tamper proof Apex bit for my car. $7.00 for one single bit.

That'll teach you to go tampering with stuff under the hood!:D

I've never heard such swearing and cussing as the time my father was working on the steering column of my sister's Dodge Shadow. It was the first time he had ever seen tamper proof fasteners.:lol_hitti

Thanks for info. Regarding tampering with rest rooms, some people have too much time on their hands.

I understand another use for tamperproof fastners is in prisons where they have developed some odd ones.

Gas valves in heating equipment. Not that I would try and take one apart to fix, just sell a new one.

I seem to remember there being some in my Corvette's dash, maybe steering wheel? I had the tamper proof torx bits from working on vending/arcade stuff.
