I recently purchased some tamper resistent torx sockets. Are these strong enough to use with the regular torx or should I purchase a set of regular torx.

Thanks

what kind of brand of your tamper-proof torx sockets? i would said it will work unless you can heard or feel like torx will fo twist the bit... i have too many torx tools as normal torx set, tamper-proof torx set, torx plus set, external torx sockets set, and etc....

The Cman set I have states that it is able to use on both tamper proof and regular torx... Personally if I crack a tamper proof bit I will just exchange it over at Sears, however I own a cheap china made set too, I think iI would use those before my cman's when I think I might break one.

HF sells a set of 100 security bits for $8 on sale. IMHO everybody should have a box of these, if not a spare, for those times where abusing the tool, like driving it on with a hammer, is the best way to go. It really has a lot of odd bits as well as all the normal stuff, and so far mine have held up pretty well despite rough use.

I twisted a good Lisle USA tamper proof Torx bit when I knew damn well I should have been using a regular Torx bit. I was removing a stuck fastener with an impact driver, and I didn't feel like walking back to the toolbox to get the solid bit. I won't do that again.

I've done it too. The hollow tipped bit is, obviously, weaker.

Torx sockets are one of those places where I absolutely could not abandon truck-branded tools, even if I left the field professionally.

I've stripped every last trace of the torx head (leaving a round hole) on multiple fasteners using an impact to try and break them loose as a last resort, and my "Heavy duty removal" Snap-On T25 socket (with the gold-colored bit) still looks brand new, which is saying something, since Volvos are pretty much 50% assembled with a 10mm, 13mm, and 18mm bolts. The other half is held together with T25 torx screws.

I was using a set of Matco's Silver-Eagle (their version of Blue Point) bits for a while, but broke one every week or two being careful.

I bought the "HD Removal" Snap-On bits on eBay for a damn good price, and haven't looked back. I think I've broken one bit in over a year.
