Fellow next door moved out, and gave me a little 40.000btu salamander (ready heater), that he used with #2 diesel fuel rather than kerosene. The tank has some of what I call ****** from the #2 diesel. Any way to clean this out, other than tear down and car wash it out?

Dump kerosene it it, it will disolve the diesel.

Burn the mixture off by running the heater.

Dump some sawdust in it, brush around to mop up the snot and vacuum out. Just did the one on my steamer, 30 yrs of grime in it, looked really nice when I was done. It really doesn't hurt much if fuel is still going thru, the intake port on mine was getting hard to see.

They are unvented so any burning smell comes with the heat.
Just use it where the small isn't important.
It will clean itself out.
