I am thinking about replacing my water heater with a tankless water heater from Noritz.

Anybody have one of these? Have you noticed any savings from going tankless?

thanks,

I have 2 in my house... Rinnai (sp) brand... they work great. House is 4000Sq ft 2 story so 1 is for the kitchen, laundry, downstairs half bath & upstairs bath as they are all on 1 side of the house. We have 1 for the master bath also.

Make sure you use gas not electric ones as I dont think they can keep up with the water flow as well as gas can.

What kind of price, do you see a savings over a conventional water heater, and does it keep up on a lengthy shower? I know a few years ago that a lot of people stated they were good if running water in a sink or such but demand could not be met when doing laundry, long shower, or two people taking a shower back to back (one after the other). With the cost of propane, I am seriously considering switching mine out. Propane the other day when I got it was $2.24 and I guess some places are gouging at over $3.00/gal. Any little cost savings has got to help.

Bills run $30-40 for gas in non winter months here in central Texas.

We have gas heat for the house so from Nov-March bill is higher...

The units I have keep up very well with water flow.. In master shower the reg shower head & rain head can both be used with no loss of flow & I pulled out the lil water saver things too. I think mine are rated at 8.8 gpm :headscrat

replaced my gas water heater with a Rinnai.
have propane and expect the use/cost to be less.
have a 250gal. tank and have not had to refill yet.
water pressure at shower was reduced by a small amount but not significant.
never have run out of hot water.
bought from seller on ebay. about $800 for just heater.

Our house had a Noritz model when we moved in. I can't tell you about the cost savings since I have nothing to compare to, but I can make some general comments.

1. It definitely keeps up with demand for our usage. We regularly have 2 people taking hot showers at the same time.

2. Ours uses gas to heat the water but needs electricity to run. Get some sort of backup electrical system if you want hot water during power outages. (That's my next project!)

3. On our model, water pressure plays into the ability to ignite the gas to start heating. How do I know? When we first moved in I wanted to test the water heater out. So I turned on the washer, hot water in the sink, the dishwasher, and a hot shower all at once to see if it could take it. The pressure drop killed the water heater. I turned up the water pressure in the house a bit and tried again and all was fine. I did need to reset the water heater by flipping the fuse at the fusebox. Every once in a while we'll need to reset the water heater at the fusebox if we get some sort of sudden pressure drop during use.

4. The only problem I have is that it takes a long time (> 1 minute) for hot water to get to the kitchen sink during the winter. The kitchen is the farthest away from the water heater. I don't consider this too big of a deal for our use, but YMMV.

In my case the tankless system is fine , has its limits research all you can.
The water pressure regulator in my house flucuates which makes the heater shut down and cold shower city ! :shocking:
Not the heaters fault but something to consider . When its working right its great back to back showers no problem .
