Tankless water heaters

I am looking at getting a Toyotomi OM-148 heater. Does this have to be installed by a licensed professional or can the homeowner do it? How much does it cost to have it installed. I found it on the internet for $999 plus ~$200 for the flue adapter.

Depends where you live. In my area homeowners are allowed to do their own work. The instructions recommend that it be installed by a licensed contractor but never mentions the word 'must'. I am installing an om-148 right now. I saw that deal for $999. It's the best price that I have ever seen.
