Looking for suggestions on a tap & die set. Need both SAE and metric and I'm not a huge fan of Craftsman.

Any recommendations?

I would recommend a set with hex shaped dies instead of round. The hex can be used with a wrench in tight spaces. The round have no benifit. Taps normally are the bottoming type in most sets, they work fine but having a few starter taps (pointed end) can be handy.

Some round dies have the benefit of being able to cut new threads.
Irwin Hanson makes decent for the money.

Here's my 0.02. Find an older set of Greenfield adjustable dies such as the AA-4 or 311 or 312 set. The work better for me than any other set and can be had somewhat inexpensively because no one appreciates them anymore. Not sure about them in metric.

Definitely gonna keep an eye out for them, I feel like older tools last longer than the new ones I buy half the time.

Doing what I do. Auto body I have only ever used four sizes. I regret buying that 100 + piece kit when all I ever use is four of them.

I would recommend tap sockets.

Makes things easier. Nice ooooh ahhh factor.

Definitely something to look into, also very affordable. Thanks!!!
