Tap sockets - Any USA Made?

I need to tap a hole I can't get to with normal tap holders. Been wanting to get some tap sockets and now I have a reason. I've always gotten good advise here so asking again.

Do you know of any quality American made sets?

I have used Lisle brand for years with no problems but they may be made in Taiwan any more.

Snappy makes them too.

That's good to hear.

All my local Sears carry the Lisle tap socket sets in a blister card.
Around $35 for the smaller 5 or six piece set. Bigger set available online is around $50 IIRC.

Thanks for the quick responses. I jumped over to Amazon and snagged an 8 piece set of the Lisle. Eligible for free shipping and $28. Reviews were good.

I thought the same EXACT thing.

And Ken, make sure you keep those internal tap socket 0-rings lubed and out of the UV light and mega-heat as they can dry out over the years . I usually drizzle a few drops of air-tool oil or cutting fluid down them a couple times a year.

The o-rings hold the taps in so they are necessary and need to stay all puffy and rubbery to do their job.

When I run into a situation at work where a tap handle is too big, I just hammer the tap into a nut and drive with the appropriate socket. Works great.

I do that too on sizes larger than 3/4(lisle max size). However I don't hammer it in. I usually use a vise or press with my safety glasses on.

Sometimes you can get a 12 point socket to fit

I use the lisles, I have the smaller tap set and the set of 3 for the larger shanked ones, I have used them all a lot and have no complaints.

I assume I want to buy 2 sets to have metric and standard set up at any given time. Instead of changing them out every time. Correct?

And same goes for pipe taps etc....Just keep buying as many as you need?

I guess you can if your situation requires it, but I just switch to whatever tap I need. Depends on how often you're tapping stuff. I love my tap sockets and who am I to stop you from buying multiples!
