Hello Everyone,

Are tap sockets worth it, or use them much? Never knew these existed, I would always see if any of my regular sockets fit and they don't. These would be perfect. Any recommendations besides Lisle? Thanks as always!

Though I have often seen them I never felt the need to have them but I'm sure they have a place in some peoples tool box. Never know when some odd situation may arise! :dunno:

A ratcheting tap handle was one my best cutting tool investments.

I use mine 9 times outta ten. Allows some combos that shouldn't be possible. Like using a universal and extension etc.

They're all I use now. them and an old 1/4" Craftsman T handle with a 3/8" adapter if I need it. I don't think I even own a regular tap handle anymore.

I prefer my ratcheting tap handle but these are very helpful when access is restricted. They work for extractors too; not just taps.

since I already have ratchets that drive these, I am glad I bought them, and don't feel like I am missing out on a ratcheting tap wrench. Just a simple under-car chasing of trans. pan bolt holes with a tap is a pleasure compared to spinning the tap wrenches that come with basic tap sets.

I added them on my Amazon and when they dropped in price, I bought the 8pc. for $30 or so.

They are worth it if you deal with threaded holes / cleaning out damaged threads / even tapping new threads if you are careful not to torque / twist out of alignment. The normal tap handles that come in a tap / die set will not always access holes needing repair, so these sockets can save you a lot of trouble.

I use them quite a bit, especially larger sizes and use a "T" handle.
8pt sockets work too, but these hold the tap in place.

I have both small and large sets by Lisle and have used them a lot because some taps are strange sizes that regular sockets just wont fit.

While this is not for confined spaces, I keep an old "brace and bit" driver on hand for driving taps. Forward and reverse, works just fine because those old drill bits had square (but tapered) shanks.

I have those sockets... I tap stuff a few times a week... they are very useful for getting in spots to repair threads.

I tend to virgin tap via my drill press to keep it straight... and no... I don't turn the drill press on.. just used to keep it straight.
