I've been working with a lot of aluminum the last couple of days including tapping and tried 3 different tapping fluids and found the stuff in a green can called A9. This stuff is excellent and found it to be the best. I recommend it. And it has a nice smell too. BCD.

A9 is made by Relton. Yup good stuff, I really only use it for tapping or drilling bigger sizes in aluminum cause it's thicker. I prefer AlumTap (original formula) for machining alumnium since it's much lower in viscosity. I used to use TapMagic Aluminum before AlumTap but the smell makes me sick now. WD40 is commonly used for alumnium & it does work but I find it only works ok if fresh.

SafeTap also works great for me, it's a gel consisity.

I'm a fan of Orelube products also. I use Boelube 90 & Boelube paste, great stuff.

I was always a fan of TAP Magic but the old formula seemed to be better, must have had something bad in it.

Tap magic for metal, wd40 for aluminum works for me... Don't think I have ever see A9 in any of the autoparts or homedepot stores... Tap magic I got from the LWS..

A-9 has been my “go to” drilling and tapping fluid when working with Aluminum for quite some time. MSC carries it, sometimes you will find it on eBay. If you work with Aluminum a lot, it’s worth having on hand.

Relton's A9 has been my go to for aluminum for a few years now. Great stuff.

I have also found Castrol's Moly Tap is also one I use in steel and sometimes in aluminum. For general machining I'll use either the A9 or WD40, depends on item I'm machining and my mood at the time.
