Taskmaster 4 Vise

Ok, I picked this vise up today and was wondering if anyone could tell me how long or what time period these were made. I found on the retaining clip it was stamped "made in India" and I also found what appears to be a date stamped on both jaws under the removable pieces. 8/8/43 seems to old, what do y'all think? Thanks

I'm also looking for information on a Taskmaster 4 vise that I picked up a couple of weeks ago at an auction. It seems to be a stout vise. Well machined. Accurate movement.

Mark, I have searched and searched with very little found. I agree the vise seems to be well made and operates smooth. Have you removed the jaws on yours and if so is there a date stamped on it. If I find any info I'll post it.

I went ahead and disassembled my Taskmaster vise. Although I'm certain that it was manufactured in India, it's an impressively built vise. Mine has the numbers 1246 stamped on both jaws, under the jaw faces (date code?).

Since this vise seems to be a good one, I feel that it would be worth restoring. The restoration won't be anything more than clean/paint/polish/lube.

The only challenge will be to try and remove the spindle nut. Maybe it won't be necessary.
