Been a good day at work, I recieved almost all the tools I purchased with a portion of my tax return!

Picked up a IR cordless 1/2 impact and 1/2" drill. I was very surprised by the quality of these. They are both made very well, and the drill has a jacobs chuck, which I thought was a nice touch. After charging the batteries in my office, I popped a socket on the impact and tried it out, it hammers hard, very surprising for a cordless tool. I also like that the charger has a 'refresh' mode. When a battery is put on the charger, the charger senses the battery's capacity and if needed, will run a 'refresh' cycle on the battery that lasts 24hrs, and supposedly restores the battery to like new condition. I have never heard of such a thing, so I am anxious to see the results once that time comes.

Also picked up matco's longest locking flex ratches in 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2. The 3/8 is on back order, so I wont have it until next week. Very happy with the quality. The 1/4" is especially smooth.

Only regret is that I waited a week to order these, I could have used the hell out of everything last week. I'm sure none of my non-tool toys will break in the near future now that I have more toys to use to repair them :p

Nice pick up............DYK that Snap On is running a special on all 3 flex heads with soft grip????

No, I didn't. Link? I got these with a 1/2 off student discount, so the price was pretty good.

The Snap-On set was only 1/3 off list, so you are ahead there. The 3 flex ratchets were ~$300. And just the regular flex, not locking flex.

I used the coupon code 'new tech' on matco's site (10% off total purchase), so I got all three for like 220.

The 1/2" is 24" long, the 3/8" is 12" long, and the 1/4" is 6" long. I figured I cant hardly buy crapsman junk for that cheap (I know... I know... danaher owns them both... blah blah blah... It's hard to argue that CMan stuff is anywhere close to the quality that these are though)

I was looking for an 1/2" drive, 18" long locking flex with soft grip handle and I believe snap on does not make one, they only do locking with chrome handles (wtf?).

how robust is the locking mechanism on those?

How much was your return? My tax returns have been averaging $6K/year, but this year, somehow, even with a bunch of new write-offs from rental properties I just got an estimate of $1000 return....yikes. That won't buy many tool!

your really going to love they locking ablility after you use for a while

I definitely think I will. I always busted my knuckles when the non locking flex joints flexed under load. Hopefully this eliminates those.

The 1/2 is very strong, and smoothly engages/disengages, it also has a nice feel to it. the 1/4", on the other hand, is very small and since the teeth are so much finer, it is a little more finicky to engage, not enough to make me dissatisified with the purchase though.

I dont think its a good idea to disclose this online. Suffice it to say we bought our first house this year, and have a lot of college expenses to deduct, and we both work full time, so my return was healthy. Definitely not 6k healthy, but good enough to warrant a garage shopping spree :)

Hey, thats something everyone on this board can agree on, right?

I really want to use the impact. I'm debating going outside and rotating my tires just to get some trigger time in. I'm fiending like a dope addict!!! Someone get me some more tools... quickly!!!
