Teach me about pneumatic solenoids

I want to control my blasting cabinet by foot, after long blasting runs my hand is killing me. I have a foot switch already, Ill use that to supply power to the solenoid valve, I got the basics. I know nothing about pneumatic solenoid valves though, is there a delay when they are energized before the valved opens? Anything I need to be aware of?

They are available mechanically normally open or normally closed, and power is simply applied to a coil to activate in an instant mode unless a delay is wired in. Piping and orifice size are the next 2 considerations. Asco is one of the popular ones, and I use them on both the company and personal blast cabinet. A simple foot operated air valve is also available so no electrical is required. They are rather expensive. Your best bet is an equipment salvage yard for a few bucks. Most of either would be normally closed type, due to the way most are used.

Thanks for the reply. I have seen the foot operated air valves, they seem overpriced.

The new soleniod valves will make you say "wow" also. Your best bet on pricing is a used one.
