Tear down table

Thinking about building a tear down table. This would most likely be on casters so I can roll it around if needed, but would mostly sit next to my solvent tank. Something about 2ft wide and 3 or 4ft long with a 2" lip around the perimeter and a drain for fluids that would go into a bucket or steel box. What have you guys done?

Thanks,

Kurt

Every bench is a tear down table. ;):D

Seriously, the transmission shop has something similar. Steel top so you can slide your project around. When they get it torn down they put it in the washer and then on a stand but the table is the first stop.

I use a hydraulic lift table that measures about 2'x3'. I added a 2"x2"x0.25" angle iron lip for clamping and a 0.25" steel top to it. I also removed the chrome handle that it came with and fabricated a simple foot control for the hydraulic cylinder. I have a large steel pan that I put on top to contain fluids when needed.

It's relatively easy to load heavy items in the lowered position and lift them to a more comfortable working height.

Here it is in the lowered (11") position - after I removed the handle and before I added the steel top to it ...

I haven't built one, but if you make a steel table top with a edge (as you describe), you could make it so you can flip it and have the best of both worlds.

Like Zeke said, a nice metal work bench makes a great tear down table as well as a welding table. Tacking temp fixtures come in handy for disassembly/reassembly.
If you do go with a dedicated tear down table, I would not have a 2" lip as this will probably hinder you at some point. 5/8-3/4" lip would probably work better (with a drain).
Respectfully, FN

3/4 angle iron edge, flat steel plate welded in angle iron frame, welded to 2 inch pipe frame and legs

Hopefully quick pic will show up DOH pic did not show

Also hole in center to drain into 5 gallon bucket underneath.
Optional Plywood propped up on one end with pins (bolts) to hold sockets and wrench's similar to peg board.
