I currently have the new garage closed in . The outside is done except for the driveway, I'm working on the electrical now. I will try to post more pics tonight. The first pics were in august and I hope to be finished by March.

Here we are stringing up the ridge and getting the rafters up . Man these are so much easier to handle than those joists. I really wanted more pitch in the roof , but we have height restrictions here . I'm at my limit with 10' walls and a 4 on 12 pitch.:(

At this point I guess I was moving to fast to stop and take pics. We finished framing the gable ends ,decked and felted the roof and had maost of the osb on the walls before somebody took another pic. Well at least we're making progress ! Oh yea I did all the wrap without any help , those gable ends were fun. You can also see here everything from the old garage stored in the trailer. Im also strugling with my organizing skills. Its not easy being me !

This was done in August - September in New Orleans Very Very HOT I dont Know if you call that weather but ? I forgot to mention the week after i took delivery of 20 yards of dirt it rained for a week. Do you have any idea how much mud you can make with 20 yards of dirt ????

It's well into October now and the weather is much better now. Since the roof was done I have not called on any more favors , so I'm working solo now. While this is ok things have slowed down a bit. I don't believe in asking for help with the things I can do my self. I have to love family and friends for being there when I needed them.

This brings me up to current time .These , as well as the last set of pics were taken today . I'm waiting on my elecrtical inspection tomorow. It took me a while to get the wiring done . I was trying to figure a way to do it myself but code here requires a licensed electrition to do the work and file the permit. I tried to find someone that would let me do the work and file for me, but noone was willing to do that. In the end I just had to pay someone to do the job for me and file.
I just found out today I have to have surgery on my elbow to repair a ruptured tendon so all progress will have to stop for a while. I'm going to be out of work for a couple of months and will have to take it easy so I can heal. This is going to be tough for me as I have so much more to do to get to the point where I can actually set up shop . I still have to pour a driveway, insulate ,finish the inside, install my lift, build workbenches etc. I was hoping to be done for the begining of racing season but it looks like this is not going to happen .

That's what I said after we had a crew pour the 14X35 foot slab next to the house for our 5th wheel camper... There is no way I could have done it by myself.

Merry Christmas to you too. New shop is looking good! I see you are in Kenner. I know a guy on another board who lives there, and got 3 feet of water in Katrina. He posted all kinda pics of when he raised his house up 4 or 5 feet when he redid it. Pretty cool how they did it. Jacked it up with hydraulics, and pumped sand back under it since it was built on a slab. He said they never even cracked the sheetrock he had left! I hope you didn't have any of those problems, and are high enough not to get got if it ever floods again. Good luck with your surgery on the hellbone!

Since this is a budget build I thought I would look at what I've spent so far. I knew I was over budget, so for a while I just told myself I don't want to know.LOL Well now that I can't do anything I'm bored so here goes.

135.00 building permit
120.00 jackhammer rental
55.00 dump fees and diesel to pull trailer to dump
400.00 surveyer for benchmark & height of form certificate
125.00 form lumber
100.00 load of dirt
375.00 bobcat rental , diesel
650.00 highway mesh ,rebar, ties etc.
2100.00 concrete
500.00 concrete finishers
1375.00 lumber
450.00 nails & huricane ties
700.00 roof felt, ridge vent & shingles
1200.00 vinyl siding, soffit & facia
600.00 garage door
135.00 man door
600.00 electrical parts , supplies, lights etc.
500.00 electrician
40.00 quickcrete for front step

10160.00 total so far

Well I thought I could do this for about 8,000.00 ,but looking back I think I,m happy with where I'm at so far. I'm so fortunate to have had family & friends volonteer thier time & labor when I needed them. I can't wait to get back to work & finish up the rest of my project !

If you take off the $500 for the sparks, you are at $9660. You haven't posted what size the new build is other than mentioning the 10' walls, but looking at what is there, I think you have done very well.

I'm looking at $9300 just for my ground works (foundations/slab):shocking:

It is 24 x24 , that was as large as I could squeeze into the backyard and still keep my wife happy. We have an agreement . I have my section of yard and she has hers. Our whole lot is only 50x120 . That being said she lets me park a 36' trailer on her half because it doesn't fit in my half. Where I'm lucky to be able to fit the trailer in the back . City code does not allow me to park it in the front . All in all it is a tight fit but we make it work . The old garage was 18x20 with 7' cielings , so this is a great improvement !

Once again it's been quite some time since I've updated . I've spent much more time working in the shop than working on it . None the less I have acomplished a couple of things. We now have a working toilet and sink. Also installed a compressor outside the building , with a water trap, regulator and hosereel inside. also just aquired a vise though it is not installed yet.
