What do the tech's here think of this stuff. Is it snake oil or is it really beneficial?

Back when we were having problems with sticking fuel injectors we would use this to help clean them. With the availability fo "top tier" fuels sticking injectors are not the problem they once were. If I was having a injector problem it would be the first thing I would try.

From what I've read, this stuff is second to BG44K, but still pretty darn good. It's also a fraction of the price and commonly available.

YMMV.

Out of all injector cleaners readily available, Techron is highly regarded. However, I remember buying this at Walmart (when I still shopped there) for not much more than $8, but that was a while ago.

If you can't get chevron gas this is the way to go. Real smooooooooth. Cleans out egrs too just dropping in the tank. I wasn't surprised (it was a family member's car), I'm cheap and I still pay a little more for chevron premium.

Honestly, I'd only use the bottle if I didn't have chevron/texaco in the area. We have shell (like most places) but it runs like **** in forced induction cars (for whatever reason).;)

I run this every other oil change on my vehicles. It has made a noticeable difference in my Aveo, helping with a slightly rough idle. And in my Saturn SL1 at 138k it was gunked up, pulled this summer at 145k and with just 2 oil changes made a hell of a difference. Scope out the advance deals as this is when I usually stock up. Also note that they sell 2 sizes of them.

It's good stuff. GM first started using it in the "bug sprayer" in the late 1980's for cleaning fuel injectors. I add a bottle to the tank of each of vehicles about twice a year.

I'm skeptical of 99.9% of the "miracle cures in a can". Most are designed to separate you from your money.

There are only three that that I ever actually had confidence in. The bottles of Techron are one. It WILL clean injectors.

Another was GM's EOS, or Engine Oil Supplement. Not for regular use, but for a sticky lifter. Either a running "ticker" or a morning leakdown "ticker". This stuff would kick lifter varnish's ***!

And, the last was GM's Top Engine Cleaner. Not for regular use, just for carbon issues. Carbon, be gone! (in a massive cloud of noxious fumes and smoke!)

Thanks to the OP!

It's the only over the counter fuel additive Mercedes recommends... That should say something... :)

And BG44K but I don't think they sell that at stores. Once in awhile Walmart has good deals on Techron... Just need to keep an eye out.

Techron to clean, Stabil for gas that gets stored, Marvel Mystery Oil for everything else (but I use it in both gas and oil as well as to clean some things).

If it's throttle by wire (electronic throttle body) it's a different issue. I know that issue; you gotta alter something very particular on the pcm calibration. I have no idea how people deal with that (both the rough idle and throttle surge) in an automatic vehicle; I assume they did a quiet recall but I don't know. :bounce:

Since I actually get chevron gas I typically use berryman chemtool once in a while (every 6 months). It doesn't mess anything up, I don't think any of them do though (besides seafoam smoke; don't use that stuff too expensive).:bounce:

Or Seafoam.

Or plain water!

I've used a coke bottle of water many many times, but you can also soak stuff in the Top Engine Cleaner and it will disolve the carbon. Engine crowns and valves, and rifles parts like M14 pistons, and M16 gas tubes. It kicks carbons ***.

Try not to let it get on you though. There's no telling how many carcinogenic goodies are in it.

So the verdict is that this stuff is not snake oil, but if you run a tank of Chevron gas through your car instead then you are good to go? :3gears:
