I remember this was discussed not long ago...somewhere. I think there was a dispute between the Snap-on dealers and Eatons that it was tarnishing SO's brand-image. They eventually dropped the line. ....something like that.
I often see Teco Master stuff at flea markets.

That's not all they sold........... lawnmowers, garden tractors, snow blowers and even car/ truck rebuilt engines. I worked for Taylor, Pearson & Carson in Edmonton (1960-62) who were the major engine re-builder there of that era. We warehoused those rebuilds for Eaton's (and H.B.C. Woodwards, Mcleods stores, etc.) and shipped them direct to their customers, on command. The engines were all the same, but each store had their own colour. Many times we had to rush something through or re-paint something that was already in stock.

Blue, if I remember correctly. They were big on Simplicity garden tractors and blowers, the one below likely was purchased there.

Neighbour in the fifties, had a two wheeler (Simplicity) garden tractor, like a Gravely. Used to hook up a small wagon and all us kids would ride around the neighbourhood.

Just found the following page from an Eaton's catalogue from ~1965 (I think).

Tecomaster322.jpg

The ratchet in the 16-pc set (top, right) looks like a Proto, but the ones in the TecoMaster Professional sets (bottom, right) look like Par-X. These are likely the SO-manufactured tools.

You can get a better look here.

Thanks for posting that, very cool add to see.I have a lot of interest in this old brand and info seems to be almost non existant. There's been a set of Tecomaster combo wrenches for sale on kijiji in PEI for awhile now.Been trying not to email the guy and see if he'd ship them, but it's hard.

I saw those last night & was tempted myself, but they seem to be of a later vintage...

Bump!

Well, this is about the oddest damned thing I've come across...

Just saw this ad on a Croatian (I think) classifieds site where the seller offers a Tecomaster socket set apparently intended for a German-speaking market?! It is very clearly the same Eaton's Tecomaster brand.

TecoMasterSocketSetEurope1_zpsc7b777a2.jpg

TecoMasterSocketSetEurope2_zps453c56a9.jpg

The seller suggests the tools are made in Germany - by Gedore - but I strongly suspect that is pure speculation. Still, had anyone told me this existed, I would not have believed it without seeing these photos and there is this other thread where Robbie (who has never been heard from since) claims to have a German-made Tecomaster wrench, so...?

I really don't know what to make of this!

It seemed pointless to start another Tecomaster thread, I thought I'd add on here instead. Here is a couple of pics of my father's old large size SAE wrenches. He always had these as far back as I can remember - mid to late 60s. He was pretty much a Craftsman guy back in the day, these were the only Tecomaster tools he had.

Interesting.... they may have been made by S-K.

Have had this one since the fifties, the only one I have.

Thanks for posting those photos, Mike; we don't see very many TecoMaster products & I'm always interested...

I recently picked up this tape measure:

TecoMasterTape3.jpg

Here's the tape as it appears in the 1965 catalogue. You may recognize it as an Evans Rule product as they manufactured for almost everyone!

My father had a tape measure like #29, but it wasn't a Tecomaster, it was some other brand. I don't think it's still around, but now I'm going to look for it. It was the 12 foot version, of course.

I was just looking at a set of Tecomaster sockets the other day at the pawn shop... Maybe I better go look again and check the price...

I was over at my mother's house today, it being Mother's day and all. I looked for that old tape measure, and couldn't find it. It had the push button in green, and had a 1/2" wide tape. What I did find was this one, 3/4" wide with a broken tape. I don't remember it at all.

Found some more Tecomaster goodness. I don't remember this drill at all, obviously had some trigger problems. This would have been in the 1960s.

It was replaced by this drill. This was used to make a homebuilt airplane, and everything else my dad did in the late 60s and through the 70s and into the 80s.

Last weekend, I spotted a kijiji ad for "100 piece set vintage hand tools". No brands were mentioned, but there was a photo of 5 socket sets and I thought I recognized three of them as TecoMaster. A phone call confirmed this to be the case, but the seller said the sets were missing pieces.

I hate when sets are missing pieces, but I so seldom come across these old TecoMaster sets that I decided I'd make an exception and hope to pick up the missing bits piecemeal...

Anyhoo...

TecoMasterSets.jpg

The little 1/4"-drive case is completely empty - so filling that is unlikely - but I have a shot at the 1/2"-sets:

TecoMaster1896Set.jpg

SAE:

TecoMaster1899Set.jpg

And metric:

TecoMaster1904Set.jpg

The seller wasn't the original owner so he was unable to say what became of the missing pieces. sadx

Does anyone have any theories of the maker of these sockets?

TecoMasterSocket4.jpg

Also, should any of you Canadian tool-hunters come across the missing 1/2" & 3/4" SAE or the 17mm sockets, please let me know! Please keep your eyes open for the rubber-handled ratchet too!!! Obviously, Snapmom's example is not the one that belongs in these sets and - I believe - hers is slightly earlier...

These sets date from ~1967 as evidenced by the Eaton's catalogue. I only have the French edition for that year:

And now another oddity similar to the Croatian set on page 1 in this thread...

A fresh search yielded yet another TecoMaster set for sale in Romania this time! Croatia & Romania; who could have guessed?!!!

TecoMasterSocketSetRomania1.jpg

TecoMasterSocketSetRomania2.jpg

Although this Romanian set is slightly later than the Croatian set, the text on the box is again in German.

There are no COO markings on my newly-acquired sets at all.

I'm more mystified than ever... :dunno:

Yeah, interesting stuff.

By the way, this small hand drill is a re-branded Thor SpeedWay:

What are the odds that somebody would have that info and an example so handy?! Especially the same model and vintage.

Now I'm going to see what's wrong and if I can fix it. There's enough parts there that it looks complete. (except the cord, of course) It hasn't turned over in nearly 50 years!

I've seen Tecomaster branded wrenches at the flea market and at the ReStore. I snagged these two today for a few bucks:

teco1.jpg teco2.jpg

That's a 12 pt 1/2 drive so I don't know if it fits your set. I do like the little double open end too.

And today...

an online classified listing for a TecoMaster set from Turkey!

I don't speak Turkish and Google Translate renders gibberish, so I don't know what the seller is saying. However, it is clear s/he read the TecoMaster threads either here or at the GG as s/he uses images from the threads in the ad...

The case looks to be in fine condition, so I wonder if it was sold black (that would be a first) or if it was painted so by some previous owner?

I needed (wanted) a temporary "road trip" box to keep stuff from my main box organized while I'm off fixing something. I found this on Kijiji yesterday. It was the guy's father's, bought sometime in the 60's. There's a little surface rust on the bottom especially inside, a couple of minor dings, has been left in a room uncovered while someone painted the ceiling, but otherwise is in fine shape.

Everything is still square and fits together the way it should. So often these old cantilever boxes are warped from being forced closed with tools in the way of the trays.
