definitely the Kobalt; the locking mechanism is much better than the screw knob at the bottom of the tekton, which is just a polished up HFT torque wrench which can be had for $10 with coupon. If you get the kobalt, get the 10% off coupon for more savings.

if you're not limited to those choices, there's an SK torque wrench deal on ebay that I posted in the Hot Deals section. I just received mine, and they are nice and the service was really good.

I would just get a HF TQ. They have them on sale for $10 almost always.

Just as good as the two you posted.

Unless I am mistaken, HF only has a 1/2 drive torque wrench that goes from 20-150 ft. lbs, whereas the Kobalt goes from 50-250. I need torque wrenches badly and am desperately searching for the best deal. $10 sounds great, but not if I want something that can handle up to the max torque I might encounter.

^this.........

Kobalt goes up to 250 foot pounds where as the HF goes to 150 foot pounds.
I have both.

I've needed the 250 pounds version when setting up new ring and pinion swaps, output shafts, and on marine engines

IF you need to go up to 250. OP, it may help to hear what it will be used for. Torque wrenches are only accurate from 20%-100% of the scale they are listed at (so a 50-250 torque wrench is actually only good for 50-250, not above or below, and the 20-150 HF one is only accurate from 30-150 FT-lbs). I have a 50-250 PI split beam for automotive work (very useful on axle nuts, certain suspension bolts (control arms) and transmission rebuild). I also then have a 3/8 drive PI split beam that is accurate from 20-100 FT-lbs for pretty much every other bolt on a car, and an inch-pound deflecting beam type for timing belt and other critical low torque applications. You may find it nice to get multiple torque wrenches too and if so, a 50-250 should be the 1/2 drive one...
