Anyone have any issues out of tekton deep well chrome rusting on the inside? I recently bought a set and 2 of them had already started rusting. I contacted tekon about one of them and they were quick to ship a replacement but even the replacements coating looks weak/thin compared to other chrome sockets I own!

Tekton only chromes the outside of their sockets. The inside gets clear coated. My attached pic is a partial screenshot taken directly from the Tekton website. If that clear coating gets scratched or isn't applied completely during the manufacturing process, the inside of the socket will start to rust quite easily.

It is a bit disappointing having spots of rust on new sockets, but if it were me I would likely keep the socket, brush the rust off with a small wire brush or dremel wheel, and spray a little oil in there to prevent it from coming back.

electro-plating doesn't reach inside deep recesses. Williams, Tekton, SK... are all the same.

When finished using any tool give it a wipe down with a lightly oiled rag to prevent rust and keep your tools looking nice.

Am I the only freak who has never carefully examined, worried about, or even spared one thought for the cosmetic properties of the insides of my sockets?
Maybe, just maybe, if you paid an arm and leg for a drawerful of snap on sockets that are worth more than the old hunk of junk you’re wrenching on I’d be concerned. But for some bargain brand Tektons? Put me in the freak category of not really worrying about that. Use them, wipe them off and put away. If I would notice rust I’d squirt some oil on it and wipe it off and put away.

Nope :wtf: I always thought the the inside of the socket gets dirty and grimy with use. My sockets aren't trying to win a beauty contest, only to remove and install fasteners. Aside from my 1/4 drive Tekton sockets being a bit on the tall side, they all do a great job of installing & removing fasteners

I have been known on occasion to take my dirty sockets and run them through the Ultrasonic Cleaner...wrenches too...

I do wipe them down after every use.

We all have different expectations, that's for sure. If Tekton warranted them I really don't think it would be fair to be very critical. I know companies selling at a lot higher prices that just might not.

Has anyone ever experienced a real life issue with the inside of a socket rusting/corroding to where it becomes a problem? Has it impacted the fitment or rusted all the way thru? It seems normal usage and proper storage would keep the insides in good shape.

Yes

Hell, I even douche the insides of My anodized harbor freight impact sockets, With WD-40 just to ensure that no sadness starts forming in there.

FWIW I’ve had snap on tool start rusting if they were not properly protected
