I agree to this being the bigger market for it than ones needing a mini flex super stubby 3/8" ratchet (why not just use a mini 1/4"?).

Now if they can only figure out the collapsable sockets to go with it. After all, whats the point of the ratchet if you can't fit the sockets in the same pocket as your wallet and ratchet?

This design might have unique appeal for some very specific scenarios. It's like a double flex stubby, where the first flex is a fixed angle. Won't spend almost 40 bucks on it though.

The only use for this I can think of is it's compact size might make it good to throw in a small tool kit for a motorcycle or the like?

I like it, and I'm seriously considering it.

If they come out with a 1/4" drive version, I'm definitely buying; that's what I use most, especially in tight spaces.

I have and have used cheap stubby 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drive stubby flex ratchets, and this seems like an even better approach. And it can easily be folded and used as a palm ratchet. Plus, it's a high quality 90 tooth mechanism.

I got an email from Tekton today that they're releasing 100 of the folding 3/8 quick release version tomorrow 12/10/2020. I guess if you sign up to be notified on their site you can order one tomorrow :dunno:

I guess I posted this in another thread, but put me on the not impressed list also. They should've spent the effort to fill in sizes on the 3/8 and 1/2 ratchets between the standard (too short) and long. That I will buy.

Looks useful for such jobs as under dash work. Break a fastener loose with the handle extended and then fold the handle over and turn the ratchet in a fist.

I'll agree that it would be alot more interesting in 1/4" drive.

Weirdo ratchet but more interesting to me:

On instagram they posted a pic showing shadow foam that at least the first 100 have included, I attached it to this post.

I wonder if tekton is investigating or working on offering shadow/tool control foam? The stuff really seems to be gaining in popularity in the last few years and that would be a cool option for their line up.

Mine showed up today and the box/foam is just like post 58. This is my first Tekton ratchet, but it seems like a nice little ratchet that I am sure will come in handy. I do like the socket release mechanism as it reminds of the CM round head ratchet with the release (forget what that style is called). I probably did not need this ratchet, but I had some reward $$ and needed an excuse to use them.

I will post some photos later.

If this had Snap-on's name on it, all of you would be waiting in line to get one in each color, but since it says Tekton, it's a gimmick, give me a break. I use my Tekton stubby 3/8" all the time, but it would be handy to be able to run the bolts down with a thumb ratchet sometimes and then finish with the handle, this just saves the intermediate step. I could definitely see a use for it.

No gimmick, just a variation of this, and I wish this was 1/4". I want to use it like a spinner ratchet but in tighter spaces.

Another guy pushing imports feels the need to insult people who buy American tools. :twak:

Snap-on had their 100th anniversary but there's not much discussion about it. Is there even a topic about it? Yet this Tekton folding ratchet has 4 pages. If Tekton had anniversary edition tools there would be a 100 page topic about it. If it was Harbor Freight, it would be 200 pages. And both topics would be full of insults about people who buy American made tools.

Its because for people who use their ratchets once a month, both priced tools fit the criteria and they cant fathom paying crazy money for an item that does the same job as a cheaper variant.

If you follow like Garnett Tools, he used Icon as a daily mechanic and burned through a whole bunch before going with williams and now SK. You get what you pay for in the long run.

Absolutely missed the mark on this comment, but you proved my point. It isn't that this folding ratchet is a gimmick, it is that it is made by a company other than Snap-on, and therefore a gimmick. No where did I put the quality difference between Tekton and Snap-on for being a determining factor in this purchase, nor did I say there was anything wrong with Snap-on. I love Snap-on. My point was that if Snap-on came out with a similar tool, nobody would be calling it a gimmick. Never did I insult anybody who buys American, or try to push import tools on anybody.

You absolutely missed the mark. I complained about your unwarranted comments about people who buy Snap-On. I never expressed my opinion about the Tekton folding ratchet.

If a hypothetical Snap-On tool isn't criticized but a Tekton tool is criticized, it might be because nobody is discussing the Snap-On tool. (Much like nobody started a topic about the 100 year Snap-On anniversary) Yet you cry about unequal representation.

Here's a post criticizing Snap-On. It was posted the same day as you falsely claimed that Snap-On gets preferential treatment.

Have seen people get hung up like this before. I don't want this thread locked. I DO want to hear from whoever actually uses one of these ratchets enough to know how useful it might be.

I could see where it might work where a roto-head ratchet might not, but I love rotos for that kind of thing, and an Icon 1/4" roto is probably my favorite ratchet.

A discussion about the ratchet without insults, was exactly my goal. No need for anyone else to pile on like reDAC.

I don't really see what it would be useful for, feel like the handle is too short to use like a speeder, would probably make for an awkward thumbwheel ratchet (I don't even own a thumbwheel as an auto tech)... other than folding down for more compact storage? I don't get it :confused:
