I have a couple of Tekton sockets. They appear quite well made, but so often the material is the bugaboo. Who knows the quality of the steel? And the Lifetime Warranty is a joke. To claim it, you have to mail the tool back to Tekton along with the original receipt - it's only good for the original purchaser. Heaven help you if they decide you bought it from an unauthorized reseller. Who's the "original purchaser" anyway? The bulk wholesaler the factory sold to, the regional distributor they sold it to, the local warehouse they sold it to, the retail store they sold it to, the guy with the flea market booth who bought out the store's stock, or YOU??
Sorry for the rant. I've used the sockets a couple of times on light stuff and they worked.

I bought a Tekton 3/8 drive x 12 in. breaker bar from Amazon. I put it away and used it 2 or 3 months later. It was defective. The socket retention ball bearing was damaged and would not move, so I was unable to fit the socket on the drive head.

I called Tekton and they mailed me a new one Fedex 3 day at no charge. They didn't ask for any receipt and didn't even ask me to mail the defective one back.

Not sure why you would say the warranty is a joke. I didn't have any problems.
Has your warranty dealings with Tekton been otherwise?

Tekton seems to really be going above and beyond with their warranty. This is great because very few other manufacturers are doing that now a days. If Tekton looses on a few warranty claims that they probably didn't need to warranty, I'm sure they'll gain the trust and sales to make up for it.

Everyone does. Its great there is someone here minding shop and I am all for marketing but you could toss all these tools in a box before they
stamped the brand on them and basically not tell them apart. HF, Lowes. Sears, Stanley, Northern, all the same stuff. Commodity level stuff, its all pretty good today though.

I have only ever had to warranty one tool from Tekton (a 7/16" ratcheting wrench). No receipt, had it for years, zero hassle. Can't say the same thing for some of the tool trucks I deal with. They are not premium but they are light years ahead of the cheap flea market **** everyone was selling in the 80's (had a japanese wrench break and nearly severed a finger). They do nicely fill in the gap that was left by Craftsman. Let's face it, we aren't living in the golden age of U.S. manufacturing so the lower tier tools are not going to be made here anymore. May as well buy the best you can for the price and warranty.

I have a 24pc Great Neck set of deep and shallow 1/4" sockets.

They get used on light repairs about once a week because they're in a portable box. I've never used them on a hex bit adapter or anything powered. They do just fine for basic stuff, but the 7mm shallow had no engraving and there's no way I'd use these on a daily basis.

Good emergency backups, definitely not front line tools.

I have one Great Neck tool and it is one of my "go to" tools. It's a shorty socket wrench with 3/8" on one side and 1/4" on the other with a soft rubbery grip. If I am ad doing some car work that requires two different socket sizes, I will use a 10mm on the 1/4" side and a 13mm on the 3/8" side. Really comes in handy. Also use it in tight spots under the hood when my small 1/4" socket wrench has little leverage and a pencil size handle. Also use it when I am concerned I may over-torque a nut. Had it for years and it has given me no problems.

Bought a Tekton 6" dial caliper on Amazon a few years ago which had very good reviews. I wasn't familiar with the Tekton brand, so I have been pleasantly surprised with the accuracy and repeatability. The surface finish and craftsmanship are what you would expect with quality tools. They are quite a bit less expensive than Mitutoyo and Starrett.

Mike,
You'll really like the dead blows... I have the 3pc set too and they are really god for the money... For less than $35 on Amazon you can't go wrong... It's funny because I was considering getting Snap On dead blows but for the price it's just stupid... LOL... It's a plastic hammer filled with shot or sand... Even trying to get a Snap On on ebay is about $50... And ya know how Snappy looks for anything to get out of backing something with their name on it if you're not the original purchaser... Oh geez I got on my Snap On warranty rant again... That's a good way for people to jump all over me... But needless to say Tekton will back what they make... Please update us with your use of the dead blow hammers... It's a good way to test out the QC at texton... ;0)

As far as hammers go, so far they do what they're supposed to...

I like them...I never had a set before, just odd ones...

The dead blows are on my list...

Joe, they should ship out tomorrow. I'll make sure to get back to you guys here and let you in on what I think. I've had the opportunity to try trusty cook, matco. mac and snapon etc

Oldldh, I plan to grab most of what they offer in their USA made plier lineup. I want to grab their ball peins too as those look pretty nice. How do you like having so many sizes? Is it worth having that many?

Of course not...

But I have never had a complete set of hammers, too expensive, didn't have the space, etc...

So, for around $50.00, I got them all!!!

The price was really right, free freight, too, so I got them...:rocker:

I've used three of them, so far, and they appear to be "good" hammers...:D

So, is it worth it to have this many???...:headscrat

It is for me!!!:lol_hitti

Hey OLDILH,
Do the shafts of the hammers feel rigid enough... (I know how that sounds but didn't know how else to ask it... LOL...) The core shaft is fiberglass and it's molded plastic over it... Sounds good and could help with shock to the hand but worried about flex... I'm careful with my tools but I feel as tho a hammer needs to take an extreme beating... I was thinking about getting them for all the reason you said but not seeing them in person I wasn't sure... I have the Snap On 40oz BP hammer but for most of my auto/metal needs I use a 32oz and a 8 oz BP hammer... But for the price why not get them all... LOL
I would be interested in any of your findings... The more details the better... Keep us updated... Oh and if you are thinking about the dead blows get em... They are working on well for me... I have been using the 24oz dead blow for some gun smithing stuff too and it's a must...

Hey Mike,

Sounds great... The more details you want to share about them the better... It's good for us to know and also if tekton makes a good product others could find this info very helpful...

I have three Tekton torque wrenches, the 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drive and I really like them. As far as accuracy goes I say that they are spot on. I torqued my lugnuts to 88 ft.-lbs with my Tekton wrench and then used my Dad's much more expensive Craftsman torque wrench to verify and it broke right away. Very good for the money I would say.

Are they just like the HF ones?

I couldn't tell you. I have a Harbor Freight in town and was planning to swing by this weekend. I'll try and open up one of their torque wrenches for comparison and let you know.

I would venture to say that the Tekton are probably nicer.

So I got the dead blows. For the price they are fantastic. They feel like they have a softer plastic than snapon matco mac etc. This could be because they haven't been covered in grease, dirt and other **** yet.

I think they will last. I wouldn't drive nails with them but I don't think that is the purpose of a dead blow anyways...

My impression of these made me decide to put a ton of Tekton stuff in my shopping cart for my next order. I'm going to be ordering a ton of their pliers, the ball peins and the long 72 tooth ratchets for sure. I'm also going to order Grey Pheumatics metric universal sockets, and a universal adapter. I may have a full toolbox soon.

How do you guys like the Tekton twist socket rails? They are rebranded ernst right?

Im a fan of Tekton, especially the recent run of their stuff.

However, as far as Great Neck is concerned... and I agree, they are mostly garbage... but for whatever its worth, I ve had a set of metric 1/4 dr. sockets in long and short that was probably one of the first set of sockets I got years ago and they have held up fine and worked everytime Ive needed them. Granted, they are not daily use items, but everytime Ive needed them, they worked perfect.

I have several sockets and wrenches from Tekton. They have received moderate use with no problems. I am happy with the quality, and the price is great! I wouldn't run away from their products.

So here is a pic of the dead blows so people can gauge the size. I really like the smallest size. It will be good for tapping things in tight spaces
