I am thinking of pulling the trigger on this set from Tekton. I like how they are long and have a 6 pt box end. With a ratchet box end the benefit of a 12 point is greatly diminished. Unless of course your have a 12 pt fastener. I am getting these to complement my existing tools as these can help with stubborn and rusted hex head metric fastener that may be in more difficult locations.

Who else has 6 points?

I have read some good and bad reviews. I know things change over time and Tekton seems like a company that wants to solve problems. Not just sweep them under the rug and hope it never happens again.

Anyone with actual experience using these?

I have that set. It's a decent set for occasional use.
I like the 6 point wrenches, but 12 point is still quicker to get on the fastener. It's a little annoying to rotate the wrench to try and find the right spot.
As far as stubborn locations, I find that it's hard to get the non-locking heads on fasteners vs non flex heads or locking flex heads.

Like I said, I own them and don't plan on getting rid of them but if I had to use them everyday, I would go with something a little better.

Thanks, I understand and get all of your points. I do own a set of locking flex heads and know the pros and cons between the two styles. I find tightening the screw on the non locking flex head a bit more is better for me as it gives the flex head more drag.

I used mine this week end and found them to be excellent for reaching some bolts down on an engine. Glad I had them.

Even though I like Tekton for a lot of what they make, I have these in the short version and a lot of times they are not usable. The problem is not so much in the six point design but the fact that they have such a weak detent in the flex head. The flex head never stays put. So in a tight space if you get this onto the fastener won’t stay in that position for very long.

There is no detent in the flex head. It is just the friction created by the screw. Try tightening the screw to create more drag. This is the way all flex heads work that I have seen. Gear Wrench, etc.. I understand what you are describing. There are locking flex heads and that would solve your problem.

I bought an early set of non reversible GWs. After getting one trapped and costing a lot more work to get the trapped wrench out, I really dislike non reversible wrenches.

BTDT

It's why I only own reversible ratchet wrenches.

Does anyone make a zero offset reversible ratchet wrench?

IMO, the 6pt end is a moot point.
I've damaged too many ratcheting wrenches by getting to aggressive on stubborn fasteners.
And I hate being down and out waiting for a replacement.

So I bust em loose with a wrench or breaker then use my gearwrench. I know that's not always an option, but the 6pt ratcheting end is more of a nuisance than a blessing in my limited experience.

It sounds like a good thread would be who has the most robust ratcheting box wrench. Who has the best most convenient warrantee.

Good to know SK makes 6 pt too. Thanks Ton ton.

I have a bunch of 6 point Carlyle ratcheting wrenches. It's not normally an issue unless you're in a tight space you can't see, then you may have to pull the wrench back out and rotate the ratcheting part slightly then try again.
