Hey guys I thought I read in another post about tekton possibly changing there sockets to another manufacture any truth to this????

I'm really interested in getting there big 1/2 socket set as my current 1/2 sockets selection is very poor and I have found I'm in need of them a lot more these days as I am continually wrenching on my 3/4 ton dodge more these days.

If the sockets are going to get better I would rather hold out.

Thanks

The current chromes are good to go. Quality units made in Taiwan. Who knows what the updates will be? There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying a current set. Mine get used hard in a non-professional setting , no issues whatsoever.

Agreed! AFAIK, Tekton has provided no details about their socket updates. Current line is GTG, but better can be had (IE: Carlyle)

I think we tend to push our own personal favorites... but almost all of the Taiwan sourced tools are decent/comparable in quality. Carlyle, tekton, Pitts pro, even duralast (and gearwrench non-Chinese stuff) are interchangeable for me. I like Tekton because of availability via amazon and the complete sets they offer.

Tekton Chinese sourced pliers definitely fit the “wellllllll.... I guess I’ll put it in the back-up extended family loaner tool bag,” usage. Their USA sourced pliers have held up well, comparable to channellock and.... :) Wilde.

I agree about the Chinese pliers and the Chinese flare nut wrenches. But just like the old India made wrenches they dropped those and moved up a step. That I think is the key difference. Carlyle is great stuff but not priced very competitively at list. Harbor Freight hasn’t refreshed their mechanic lineup for a good while and would never dream of US production. Tekton just keeps rolling out updated stuff. It’s pretty clear they read what is posted here and react to it as well.

Hopefully Dave can get some of us sample sets of the new socket design to test out.

Bought a 1/2 tekton set. They're great the way they are. For the money. Ratchet (old clunky one) is sub par but everything else is nice.

Its hard to improve on a socket,

I like they're impacts, to improve them i would have the markings stamped in, as well as etched as they are.

Have the smaller sizes narrow at the bottom of the socket, rather than just a taper at the end.

Possibly add an o-ring groove at the bottom to make it easier to get them off when there new.

Overall though, some warranty support for the UK would be nice.

All you see from taiwan not all same, forging process and heat treatment/tempering varies massively as does the cr-v grade from likes of 50bv30 to better 6140 8660 .
Tekton current sockets pretty much average nothing special .
Having 2 lines of sockets would be good, keep current and add second line .
Need add second better quality wrenches and improve/expand pliers .
Why they got no warranty out of US seems silly, UK guys pay same or more and got no life warranty which not going increase sales growth internationally .

I have that set and use it every day in an industrial shop. It's well worth the money in my opinion. Some complain about the size markings, I have mine in Hansen rails so I don't really look at the socket to check the size.

Size markings are annoying for sure, underneath the truck fishing for the 12mm and come up with a 14... ugh.

For most users, the vast majority of Taiwanese tools produced by reputable companies will be absolutely fine.

Still, if given the chance, I'd gladly continue to support additional made in USA purchases from Tekton. I appreciate what the company is doing.

look for cr-v japan style impact sockets, hold up better than truck brands at mid pricing and are nicer design than most .
