Hey Guys,
Just wanted to drop a word that our Facebook page is up and we have a give-away on there too. I am new to the company and we are looking to really up our stuff to be a good Homeowner / Hobby Mechanic tool. We are constantly looking for better factories and USA sources. For our price point USA doesn't always work out but we are trying. I have been a Lurker on GJ for a while so I figure I might as well let the cat out of the bag. Any questions that I can answer I am more than willing to. Thanks Guys, and enter our give-away! :rocker:

Do You guys make your own Hex/Torx drivers? I've noticed some similarities between your cases and Vim tools? Curious?

We do. But truthfully a lot of those cases we source and that same company that makes that case might make it for other people in just a different color. Very likely it could be the same case. Thats the main trouble with import sourcing you don't know what else they sell, and to who.

Like I said it doesn't always work out, We started as a value line and to our existing customers its hard to hike up prices, but we are always checking and making sure we are getting the best product we can at the best price. Our Goodyear Airhose is currently made in USA so that nice. Because Goodyear is licensed its hard to know who made it, but all of our Goodyear air hose has a diamond on the hose, and I have tested our Goodyear competitors there is a difference.

I don't yet, but I was just talking to the guys about a Garage Journal Give-Away, so hopefully that would be in the future. The system we use for our current give away is a facebook gig so it kind of limits us.

I don't know much about Facebook; but I like the fact that you are at least trying to sell Made in the USA tools. I had some fantastic luck this week, the person I spoke with on the phone at Enco told me which tools were made in the USA. Good luck with your web-site.

It does sound like you have your work cut out for you. I'm sure that many who like the brand won't mind slight increases, although you might lose the type of customers that go for the lowest priced tools regardless of brand.

Are the Tekton-branded hoses also made in the USA from the same high-quality production as your Goodyear ones?

One more guy hoping for something that isn't facebook related.
Is there a website? Is there anything that doesn't have a facebook requirement?

BTW I work for a firm out of RI that is only 2 letters different than your Co name, every time I see your tools I have to do a double take. ;-)

What exactly is made in USA in your product line?

Currently all our Goodyear Air Hose. We only recently (within the last year) started looking into USA Companies. Our Goodyear Hose is assembled in Grand Rapids MI at our facility and I think we have the hose itself bulk produced from Tennessee or Kentucky. I'm more of a hand tool guy so I really don't mess with the Goodyear line much. Our Tekton hose is still well over its 3:1 burst ratio but it is an imported product. We want to eventually have a blend of different USA and Imported products, its just hard to jump into.

Our main website is always up and ready to be seen at http://www.tektontools.com and if there is anything you like it can link you right to our Amazon Vendor set up.

I really like seeing the response from you guys and I will try to get a GJ thing going soon.

Dave

I have a set of your line wrenches in my home box and they have worked good when needed. I also know of a fellow mechanic who uses your line wrenches and your stubbys everyday at work with no issues. Imported chinese stuff...but decent quality and great for the price. They stand up to use professionally...cant argue with that.

You guys used to be called MIT right?

I currently have your #4677 - 25' x 3/8" Retractable Air Hose Reel. It's been working well, but I wished it was made in the USA ...

How is tekton related to MIT? Is GRIP also related? Or just located in same area?

i was going to ask the same thing. if i recall the story correctly the familys that owns grip and tecton (?) are relatively new to this country. say in the last 30 years or so. maybe two brotheres that started a company and split it into two brands maybe. it would be interesting to hear the story again.

by the way. if you guys can source more us made tools, i am all for it.

Michigan Industrial Tools is the orginal company. A couple years they revised to better quality and styling. Tekton is pretty much our main brand.
I don't know them personally but they just do things different than us and we do not want to have people thinking we are the same. We are trying hard to improve and be a value.

If anyone ever has an issue with our tools contact me and I will take care of you. Thanks for keeping the bashing low. I really value the opinion here.

How about retail and where they can be purchased (in an actual store)?

Used to be, quite a long while ago, MIT was something I typically could only find at the truckstops on I69 and those traveling tool truck shows (like homier I think).

Was the names of specific stores removed because they cannot be disclosed?

Would you like to share anything about any new/up and coming/innovative tools coming out?

Yea, I was just worried it was unfair to customers I didn't mention. We are going to have some impact sockets with a new style logo that I think is pretty cool. I can't drop pictures yet bit will when I have the clear.

For retail most mom and pop stores, and most farm and fleet style. Otherwise you can check out www.tektontools.com and it links you to amazon and they have most of our line.

I actually received my first Tekton tool for x-mas this year, a door panel popper. Made in China and left kinda rough before chroming, but looks like it should do the job just fine. With a little better finishing it could compete with the big names, but seems kinda half-assed as received. Get out of China and give me a little more attention to detail for a couple bucks more and I'll be glad to send a lot more business your way...

It's not as easy to move 1800 items and keep prices around where we are. If we told our customers we are doubling prices, but COO is USA. They would jump ship. We are working on some US sources but it isn't an easy process. We try to provide a very good product for the price, and some times the COO gets in the way.

I too have heard MIT and Tekton names used interchangeably, most notably on eBay. And I currently have a couple of ratchet/socket adapters where a professional mechanic has used Tekton's 1/2" to 3/4" impact adapter without a problem.

Although the prices are attractive, the only thing keeping me from stocking more Tekton stuff is the import (and reliability) factors. And I didn't know that you guys made ANYTHING yourselves. So your information comes as a pleasant surprise. Sounds like you might be on track for future success. :)

Thanks,
Steve

You can purchase assorted tekton tools at Tractor Supply. I know we carry the hose reels and good year hose, and occasionally some other assorted hand tools.

Facebook is a HUGE bottomless time sink. To avoid it, but still take advantage of things that only work through facebook, make a junk email acct. Everybody should have a garbage email acct at yahoo or gmail etc. and just use it for all the stuff you have no plans to read email from.

I am less sensitive about COO, as long as its a quality tool, but I find Taiwan generally hits a happy medium of price and quality.
