Tekton universal joint sockets

Not sure if these are new but haven’t seen them before:

Looks like good quality but $200 seems high for Taiwan made - curious if anyone has them or your thoughts?

I went with Astro pneumatic. Love them so far. They would be less expensive if you bought them and same quality. Their rep Chris is on here so warranty should be good.

I don't think they're new.

That $200 set is actually their master set having four sets in one, 1/4 drive SAE, 1/4 inch drive metric, 3/8 drive SAE, and 3/8 drive metric.

They also offer smaller rail sets priced lower.

I haven't used them or fondled them so, I don't know how they compare but, not offering a 5.5 mm 1/4 drive swivel socket makes it a deal breaker for me.

I call those universals finger biters. I like swivel sockets way more.

On the tekton site though that is an impressive angle that the universal still works at.

D#mn! Not in my budget. Wish their u-joint adapters used the same "4 pin joint".

I have the 1/4" metric from Tekton and have been perfectly happy with them so far. I don't use them a whole lot, but when I need them almost nothing else will work. Obviously a different brand of the same thing but you know what I mean. I haven't had any problems with them either. I don't get too hung up about finish myself so I honestly can't say about that, but function is fine.

They are comparing a universal adapter + socket to their universal socket. The length savings over a traditional universal socket is like 3/16" at that joint.

The length reduction is the distance between two pins. Tekton should get credit for making a relatively unique design for a niche market, while most companies pursue the relatively stronger and larger market that requires more space. It all makes sense. Nothing mysterious.

I was considering these some time ago. I decided to pass after reading reviews of them falling apart under use. It seems the four little pins are the weak link under torsion. Its a great idea but needs some additional R&D apparently.

I'm thinking about buying something and have had good results before with Tekton. Domestic are unfortunately out of the budget. Any recommendations are appreciated.

wow I had no idea that tekton made universals like these, with all 4 pins in the same plane they should work a lot smoothly than the typical design. That's awesome, I thought Nepros was the only manufacturer offering universal sockets like this! I'd love to see more info about how the tekton compare to the nepros, if anyone out there has both

I as able to snag several 3/8” drive metric swivel metric sockets US made Napa Brand many years ago on clearance at a Napa where they were going to a different OEM, probably Asian made. Think I paid $3 each?

Anyway, I’ve also found I’m better off just buying a one off socket when needed. I bought a 1/4” drive flex 10mm socket a few weeks ago at Napa for $9. I have the 3/8” flex 10mm but I needed a tighter smaller socket (Toyota trans pan bolts)
