Hey guys,

I know there was some interest in this a while back. Just wanted to drop a line that the new TEKTON USA pliers are available and currently 25% off on Amazon.

I'm hoping to do a give-away soon for the members here, but I'm still working out kinks with the GJ management. :fingersx:

These are TEKTON products with the same TEKTON service. If you ever have trouble with them, you can contact me anytime, or call in to us.

Thanks!

These are obviously made by Wilde. I have a decent number of Wilde tools and I'm satisfied with them all, so I wouldn't hesitate to buy these if I needed them.

How much of Tekton's tools are made in the USA? The majority of them? All of them? Not many?

Thanks for the fast reply!

From what I've seen, fast replies is the standard for Tekton customer service! Just look at amazon reviews, whenever someone has a problem (writes a bad review) they are there to remedy the situation.

I don't know of any company that actively seeks you out to solve your problems!

Think I'm going to pick up that 10in slip joint... pretty sure the largest I have is 8in! What a travesty!

What is the warranty on TEKTON tools? All I found was:

"Always Guaranteed
Our philosophy: world-class support for the price of a tool. We want you to spend time on your project, not talking to us. So we strive to provide tools and support that consistently exceed expectations."

Does always guaranteed mean lifetime warranty if it breaks while using it as intended? Warranty against manufacturer defects?

If it breaks we replace it. As long as you're not claiming your screwdriver accidentally turned into a pretzel, I will take care of it. I rarely ask for anything more than a picture of the damage.

Good to know! Looks like I'll be buying some TEKTON made in USA pliers before too long!

Tekton is about as close to a Sear Craftsman type warranty you can get for a competing brand.

I have had a couple of warranty issues and just a simple email to Tekton with a photo, I had a replacement in the mail sent to me with just a note to throw out the discrepant tool. No shipping back or extra expense on my part.

Does not get any better than that.

They sold all of their old, non-flush fastener stock to Tekton? :lol_hitti

I bought a Tekton seal puller this week and was worst handle quality ever. Bad flash and chips out of plastic. You would need gloves to use it. Not impressed.

That doesn't look like the kind of plastic that chips (looks like that sheen hard handle plastic). Did you get something on it?:dunno:

Definitely gripe about it rather than contacting the OP for resolution. :eyecrazy:

I've got both....TEKTON & Flush Fastener WILDE pliers....both are excellent quality, but I think you should keep in mind the price difference & ease-of-replacement warranty.

Most situations would not benefit by having the flush fastener, although in certain cases it would. Typically the standard construction (like the TEKTON version) is perfectly adequate & will work 99% of the time.

The TEKTON pliers are an extremely good deal & I commend them for carrying more Made-in-USA products.

I understand. I was just ribbing Tekton a little. I'm glad they've decided to offer some USA made products

Sorry to hear about the handle. Mistakes do happen, and I'd like to make sure you get a replacement.

Can you email me your info? A picture of the bad casting would be awesome for my QC records, but don't worry about it if you don't have a camera handy.

Thanks

Dave

GJ has turned me into a SO/Knipex fanboy, and for good reason. However, due to Dave R.'s awesome attitude I did buy some of these Tekton Pliers. Got some for my old man as well. Between the trucks/trailers/properties, there are plenty of carry boxes and behind the seat boxes that need good tools. And this fits the bill.

Thanks Dave R. and Tekton.

Dave, I just ordered a pair of 8" slip joints. I'm glad to see you're here and engaging with us! Lotsa reps don't have the nads to do that.

UPDATE: Just got my pliers in today. They look good but the area around the slip joint is a little narrower than I would have thought at ~7/32" wide. But I've got other tools for mondo clamping force, that ain't what pliers are for.

...and QUESTION: What locks the fastener nut if I want it a little tighter?

They look like they'll last me a good long time!

For the Michigan, Indiana, etc states that have Meijer stores, these new USA pliers are showing up in the tool aisle. They have almost completely changed to carrying Tekton with some channel lock remaining and a bit of stanley on the shelves. Prices for the pliers seemed to be close to what they sold channel lock equivalents before.

My Meijer's does not have the 10" Wilde slip joints. Just the 8" and the 6-1/2" slip joints. Anyone seen the 10" version at any Meijer's?

Mine came today, I was disappointed when I checked at Family Farm and Home ( which caries a huge Tekton selection) and did not find one USA product that was red, if you know what I mean. But these seem like a great set of pliers

I'm curious what tools by Tekton are US made. I always associated them with HF quality (or slightly better) too along with the others mentioned...I have had a few MIT brand tools in the past and they were nothing to write home about. Just searched the website ( this thread has me interested enough in the products) but nothing I could find about COO for specific tools or in general, including the pliers pictured above. In this day and age I would think identifying US made items would be the norm among a company's "quality import" product line.

I think you're right, in the past they've just been rebadging cheap import tools, but with the latest Wilde rebadging, it looks like they're trying to up their game. Nice to see, but it makes it a confusing for the consumer. Maybe they'll settle into a higher bracket overall soon?

Then again, a lot of consumer perception is marketing driven. Craftsman tools are hit or miss, and they've enjoyed a pretty long reputation of being decent. Fact is, most of their consumers aren't using them to the limit so they'll never know. Tools aren't things you buy more than once if what you have works.

In post 7, Dave R of Tekton says air hose, pliers, and tool storage are USA made. If they're in the process of upping the quality of their rebadged tools, then I can imagine it's a slow process. Their pliers prices on Amazon are lower than Wilde's (the mfr) prices, for what looks like the same warranty.

Give them a chance, I like my 8" slip joint pliers I just got in.
