Is there a major difference in quality between these socket set? I am in need of a good portable set and was originally thinking Tekton because of ease of warranty, but if Williams is higher quality then I shouldn't need the warranty as often. I don't break sockets very often as o try not abuse my tools. I did notice that Tekton offers a 72tooth ratchet vs Williams 36tooth.

Make sure it's Tekton Taiwan made first. If it's china you may want to pass

i'm betting it's the williams taiwan op is talking about... price difference between the two would be fairly small... williams usa would be a big jump

also depends on which kit op is looking at... i'm not a huge fan of 12pt and the only 6pt sets i know of from tekton come with ratchets so if OP is looking for just sockets williams does offer 6 and 12 in sets with just sockets last i checked tekton only offers 12pt in the shallows... but ratchets were brought up so i dunno

as far at the 72 tooth vs 36 tooth... the tekton 72 tooth will be the same mechanism used by nearly every taiwan 72t ratchet so it's a good ratchet... williams... i know the US 36 tooth is internally identical to the snap-on 36t but if it is taiwan i'm not sure

I would go Williams USA. Which I just did for my new job. Decided to get some new sockets. So I went Williams USA in 6pt. 1/4, 3/8 shallow and deep, SAE and Metric. 1/2 SAE shallow. Very happy with them. I will get more as needed.

I keep the Williams Taiwan set in my truck. Great layout for a portable set. These are rebranded Blue Point tools btw.

I'm looking for a new socket set too, I voted for Williams but I'm getting the USA version...

I think either set you're looking at would serve you well
