Any idea of the vintage of this set? They look like 1/4" drive sockets, but the drive is actually .277. Just large enough that a modern 1/4" socket wont fit it. Found it pretty interesting...
Most of the pieces should have a date code stamped on them.
If the stamp looks like an E, then the date would be 1944.
If the stamp looks like a G, then the date would be 1945.
If the date looks like something else, then you need to consult a date chart.
9"32 is almost useless today if you had just a ratchet but having a set is cool. I think I heard you can put a 1/4" rebuild kit in one of those but I dunno. It's a nice find I've seen others ask about same ratchet and heard of people grinding the square down to fit 1/4 and no way would I ever do that one. They use to have a couple size drives back then that they did away with I can't remember other size buts it's closer to 3/8 or 1/2 it was in between the 2..Boy I couldn't imagine trying to did through a bunch of loose sockets back then trying to find one to fit my ratchet.
There was a 1/4 SO rat made in the late 30s. GM-70-N quite rare.. The other 1/4 dr tools were made starting in about 1944. There were 9/32 dr tools made into at least the 60s, mostly industrial.
