Can you guys help me out. this compressor is a custom built unit a guy built for a company, he says he built 4 of them. They were deisgned to be stupid fast fill times cause of the 20 gallon tank. This is nice cause it will fit in the same spot as my old one. It has a true 5hp motor and does close to 22cfm at 120psi and goes up to 175. Has a mag starter and is barely used.

Even though I like the motor/pump set up,on that small tank,it's not a good unit. There's a very good reason 5HP comps usually are on 60-80 gallon tanks-cycle time. With any kind of use beyond pumping up tires or some other low volume use, that thing is going to be coming on,running for a very short time, shutting down for an equally short time and repeating . Expect a lot of heat from the unit, and because the air won't be in the tank long enough to cool, you'll get alot of moisture in the lines downstream.

I don't understand the point of this setup. It'll always be short cycling which is hard on motors (especially starting circuits/capacitors).

Motors frequently have a spec. for maximum number of starts/hour.

well I have a blast cabinet and I use basic air tools. you guys confirmed what i was thinking. that motor and pump on a 60 gallon would be best but then if i did that i could still be ahead if i found a good used tank.

so I am still looking at getting a new compressor. IM not sure the best route todo here. the small 20 gallon tank would fit in my current space easily, but that ch prolly would be a better fit air wise with run times. Or the smaller one I could run another tank with it maybe a 40 or 60 gallon tank plumbed in with it.
