I am not sure what YOU could use it for but if you have the cash laying around....why not?

I'd pick it up if it were near me and if that's actually a good price for it (I have no idea what it's worth). I'm sure I'd find something to hook it up to, even if just for kicks!

it depends on the bearings the motor has. if it has 'horizontal bearings' (forget the actual term), then if you turn it vertical the weight of the shaft will destroy the motor bearings.

1 1/2 hp isnt amazing for an air compressor either.

sorry to be a kill joy.

A motorized cat o' nine tails for the dungeo.......I mean......basement

I know you've already got a nice grinder but you could get some traction wheels and square tube and make a homemade belt grinder. Or mount it to the edge of a bench and add a big buffing or wire wheel to it.

So how do you tell what bearings it has?

You want this because you want to build a buffer? It's a fair price. I bought a 1 1/2 HP about a year ago for $100.00

Excuse my ignorance, I thought you could run them either direction? Is that only DC motors? I am sure I could have searched, but I like the punishment I will get for not doing it.
