How many of you have a gauge in your shop that measures the environment? What kind do you have and what do you like best about it?

I would like to be able to measure indoor and outdoor temp and humidity levels if possible.

Used to have an Acu-Rite weather station in the house, got tired of feeding the pole mount sensor batteries on a monthly basis. Finally wired it up to a small solar panel with some rechargables only to have the sensor die. Threw it all in the trash after that. Have a hand held station in the race trailer, and hardly use that - I use my phone now - no cost.

I've had good luck with LA CROSSE Technology devices in the past.

I currently have a full blown Ambient Weather station setup for temp/humidity/pressure/wind/rain. Its been in almost a year, with no problems. It is connected to the internet, so I can view and trend conditions at home from wherever I may be. I also have another 8 channel Ambient Weather temp/humidity device tor multiple room / refrigerator / freezer / pond temperature and humidity monitoring.

More than your normal person, but I've never been accused of normal.

I don't think I ever saw a humidity sensor that was accurate for more than a month in my 10 year history in the hvac industry. Customer do not regularly clean the sensor or mount in a goofy location.

That's kind of a loaded statement. Professionally, I see humidity senors that are accurate over multiple year spans on a daily basis. That's in a clean room environment, so obviously a lot of money and manpower is spent in purchasing and maintaining the instruments that can perform consistently over the long term.

The consumer temp/humidity/atomic clock combo will obviously not meet that standard. As always it comes down to the needs of installation.

For my "I wonder how hot it is outside" needs any consumer model is fine.

YMMV.

I have a (large) temp and humidity gauge. My thermostat for the heat also shows temp. I see no use for a barometer--today's weather services provide sufficient information that is much more accurate than trying to track a barometer.

Check out www.SensorPush.com My sons company developed the smart phone ap for them. Provides extremely accurate temperature and humidity readings plus data log for pretty cheap.

Guys, thanks for your input and time! My question was pretty open ended, so I now have good intel on both consumer and pro routes to get that info.

Nehog, is your gauge hard wired in or battery operated? Thanks again.
