So last year I was hit pretty hard by these little buggers. I live in Central Minnesota and these little critters are everywhere come spring. I do not want these things around so I made a trip down to the local farm supply store. Kid behind the counter showed me a product they had called Tempo WP. Kind of on the pricey side but he swore up and down that this stuff worked. Any members have any experence with this stuff or did I make another impulse buy? Any products you guys recommend? If I have to deal with these stupid things again I will go nuts.

Thanks.

Online supplier named Do It Yourself Pest Control is a good place to check. In Washington state i think.

If we're lucky, that cold snap we had a couple weeks ago will help reduce the number of asian lady bugs we see this year.

Kind of pointless, they don't do much except eat pests.
I put 3 or 4 packages a year in my garden.

Yeah, they're everywhere out here. As I understand it they migrated up from the south after being released to control agricultural pests. I never see aphids on my tomatoes, but for some reason they seemed completely uninterested in the white flies on my indoor hibiscus.

They don't bother us much, though we do have to vacuum them up around the sunny windows when they start congregating in big numbers. That and they "sting" a bit. I react to their saliva so if I let one wander around on my skin for a while and they start licking, I'll get a little itchy bump.

And once they're in, you're done. If you see a few in your house, there are a few thousand more in the attic. Might as well learn to live with them now and keep from pulling your hair out.

And the little buggers are full of the equivalent of antifreeze.. wouldn't bet on a cold snap doing much.

I'm a lot further South than the OP and some other posters here in SC and I have trouble with the varmits also. They are starting to come out in the house now.

This won't help the op very much, but I've had a "pest guy" come to my house monthly for several years now.

He sprays around the baseboards in every room and around the foundation outside. Each month he sprays for a different "bug"; whatever shows up around that time of year. He, of course, knows what to spray for ahead of time and has it mixed up every day for all the houses that are on his schedule for that day.

After he had been coming for a few months we haven't noticed any bugs or ants or mice. He's probably losing money on me now as he never raises his prices. He's been coming for at least 10 years, probably more like 15, and it's still $25/month. He's going to retire this year and his grandson is being groomed to take over. I just hope that the grandson does as good a job and is as reasonable in price as "grandpa" has been.

Best $25/month we've ever spent.

b-t-w; before "bug guy" started coming I vacuumed up thousands of those things one year in the garage and didn't empty the vacuum cleaner right away. They rotted in there and ruined it. We had to throw it away and buy a new one. ymmv.

Are "Asian" lady bugs any different than ordinary-*** lady bugs?

Out here they sell packages of them to intentionally release in your garden to control other garden pests. The obvious problem with that is X percentage of them fly off immediately and all the rest fly off once they've eaten their fill.

Never thought GJ would lead me to learning about the difference between a ladybug and an “Asian lady bug”. Apparently it’s actually called an Asian lady beetle, and looks similar to a ladybug. They apparently gather in groups, like to infest homes, do bite, and produce an unpleasant smell.

They also produce an unpleasant taste if you bite them.

"But wait a minute, you're not supposed to eat them!"

Yeah, but they're all over the place.

One ****** ended up on a Halls drop I had just unwrapped and layed on my desk for a minute while I answered a phone call. When I hung up the phone, I picked up the Halls drop without realising the dang ****** was getting a free ride. The usually familiar refreshing taste of the Halls drop was soon mixed with the unpleasant taste of a crushed ladybug. The offending cough drop and its accompanied bug went airborn across the room in a matter of seconds giving one last opportunity to the now dead bug to enjoy being airborn for the last time. Amen.

So maybe they didn't rot. Maybe they just smell bad naturally...

Had them bad one year at the Ranch when we had soybeans planted. Aphids love beans and lady beetles love aphids.

I believe the beetles were originally imported to keep aphids off prize rose gardens. And with no real predators here they took off.

They’ve never come back as bad. They can bite though.

Temp WP is similar to the what the pest control people use here. It's a type pyrethroid which is a synthetic version of chrysanthemum based insecticides. Does a good job on these little things. Works on the box elder bugs too. Nice thing is it's not toxic to people or pets. It's supposed to be toxic to fish so keep away from water.
