Temporary Bracing on Concrete

Hey Guys,

Another question…for those that run their temporary bracing back onto a slab, what kind of fasteners do you use?

I’m building a garage on a small city lot with a variance to get right up to the lot lines, so running bracing out is out of the question on two sides.

Looking for an idea that won’t tear up the slab when I pull them out.

Thanks!

Two 16d duplex head nails in a 5/16" hole. Or 1/4" wedge anchors, then when you're done cut them off flush, pound them in an inch and patch the hole. Nails work well, but if you're going to leave the wall braced for any length of time, like your building this yourself, I'd use wedge anchors.

Duplex nails are used to build forms, not secure stuff to concrete, in my experience. And you would have to drill holes and use something with it in the hole (small pieces of copper wire work well).

I'd be inclined to run tapcons, but they are more expensive and aren't reusable.

For some flexibility in attaching bracing, maybe tapcon down longer 2x4's in areas where bracing is needed then you can nail your bracing off to that?

dunno but these stakes are not rebar uses , I did cut it down and use for something else just because it's available and cheaper. when I need something to install my metal gate to a brick building...

they have holes and works well with duplex nails... double head nails is all I remember. that is what they are design to do.

Was always just fluted masonry nails in a 2x on the floor then side nailed the brace to that....but its not like they won't leave any marks.

In building concrete tilt up style Industrial buildings you can drill a hole 1/4 inch or 5/16 inch and drive in 2 nails to make a wedge. On critical supports we do 2 holes 4 nails. The duplex nail makes for quicker removal down the road.

you can patch the hole with some Common Powder and some concrete glue /water , make a semi think paste and hit it with a trowel, let it sit set up and trowel off the extra to make it smooth finish

When bracing and adjusting my ICF walls before filling them, the bracing was attached to pieces of 2X6 that were glued to the slab with a foam gun. Knock them off with a hammer, and clean the excess foam off with a scraper in a SawZall.136.jpg
