Temporary driveway to garage (height)

Garage is done. During the process, they had to cut the driveway to make room to dig and pour footings. Now being winter, I can't get a new driveway done until the spring but would love to get the cars in.

There is about a 8" difference in height between the dirt and the slab. Any ideas on a cheap solution to make a temporary ramp to get through to spring? The height difference makes it rough on the cars.

Crushed stone? Some kind of ramps? Plywood?

Thanks for any thoughts.

I'd go with wood, as it is easy and quick to remove and get rid of when the time comes to pour the driveway.

Scrap wood is often available for free or very cheap on Craigslist.

There is always dirt but will be marginal after the ground thaws out.

Here is where you do NOT want washed stone. That would almost be like getting a load of ball bearings. As stated, you want the crushed stone with fines down to dust that will pack together.

I'm in your same situation while I wait for my City to repave our alley up to the level of our driveway. We filled in most of the space with gravel and then capped that with 3" of cold patch asphalt. It's holding up like a champ. (We needed a 1-2 year solution and spent $200 on cold patch vs. $1500 for an asphalt company to come in. ...we also spent a good bit of elbow grease.)

If you do this, it might be soft on you through the spring, but you can always re-tamp as it hardens up over the weeks.
