I need some temporary lighting in order to finish up my shop remodel. I also have some specific tasks I need to finish up shortly. Mostly sanding all the parts for my boys train table and also my brother in law will be teaching me basic MIG welding while he's here over the holidays.

Years ago I had a few of those halogen portable work lights. I didn't mind the halogen light and they generally did a good job but if you didn't have them positioned just right they really blinded you.

I see they now how fluorescent and even LED. Any specific recommendations for type or light or product?

Thanks in advance.

personally, since my garage is not insulated, I use the typical 500W halogen type work lamps, the double as heat and light for me.

i use the old school hanging work lamp with a 75W bulb for under hood work.

Easily moved, easy to use, and cheap...halogen spot lights.

LED's are great, but (not yet for use homeowners anyways) they are not quite good enough yet. Yes the diode itself is awesome, but the lenses and fixtures are no where near where we need them yet. Also cost is an issue here.

You could hastily rig up some 4 ft shop lights as well for general lighting of a large area, but forget about trying to weld under a standard shop light in a 'currently being renovated' garage area. I dont imagine it will be very bright.
