Temporary place to put my garage stuff while I seal it?

I have a 3 car garage that is pretty full. I will be sealing the floor soon since is dusting (I have a whole thread dedicated to that so no more information needed there. I need a structure to cover all of my stuff as I go through the process over the course of several days. I can trust the weatherman but that has been a foolish decision historically.

What can serve as a temporary cover/structure for all of my stuff that the wind will not take away?

I had thought about doing a section at a time but in my situation I will really need to get in there with cleaners and pressure washer. I don't want anything to get soaked and I don't want to half *** this.

Thanks.

I'll second the PODS suggestion. I have one in my driveway right now. As we refurbish the last two rooms of the house, we have put all the furniture into the POD so we have unrestricted access in the house.

It's not exactly cheap, but for the short time you will be using it, it could be a good solution. We have found that the self-store lockers around here are about the same price, but the POD is so much easier. And, you don't have to load a vehicle (or trailer), transport to the locker, unload into the locker, then later reverse the process.

Looking out my window at 2 foot of snow and the wind blowing 40mph. My advice would be if you live in the northern half of the country you procrastinated too long. Hope that helps.
Just kidding of course. It's going to **** no matter what you do but some of the suggestions already posted sound reasonable. Maybe wait for Spring or summer. Pallets and tarp's are things I've had to do. I've built a hooch out out of lumber and reinforced visquine? to get things under cover for the winter before but thats gonna be spendy these days. No one sized fixall for these situations unfortunately. Good luck.

what part of the country?
what's your current weather?
how long do you plan to leave it out of the garage?

I did something similar a few years ago when i was cleaning house but I also had to get a classic car stored elsewhere while I was doing it, couldn't just leave it outside and it took me almost a year to recycle, donate, trash, and re-organize what I had to get the classic back in the garage.

There are other brands of temporary storage containers that are a lot cheaper than PODS, like Packrat. I'd look for something like that.

if it was only a single or so I would think about a Uhaul box van if it was local , but 3 car garage would be a couple box vans !

Might see if anyone local would do a short term rental on a shipping container as well.

Obvious answer it to build another shop to store the stuff in while you do the garage floor

To avoid heartache check with your local zoning to see what they have about temporary storage
Good call

the pods will mostly likley not even be a blip on the radar , since everyone uses them when they move

A shipping container might be a concern

The POD idea is very pragmatic.

Historically, I would just wait until my wife is out of the house and then load up her She Shed and then put everything else in the kitchen. It's not popular, but everyone gets over it eventually.

3 car garage pretty full, full of what tools ? 3 cars, bikes, mowers or just maybe stuff that needs purged ?

This could be an opportunity to do some cleaning and pare some stuff down and/or get a shed for the backyard.

When we tore down a "2 car" (22' x 22') garage to build a 25' x 40' garage I rented a shipping container. I don't recall the price but since I'm frugal (OK, cheap...) it must have been reasonable.

Inside went all my woodworking tools, mechanic's tool chests, sandblast cabinet, motorcycle & MG (sports car).

That actually a thing?
In my city a POD won’t raise an eyebrow

But a shipping container in your driveway or yard is gonna very likely have the city send some one by to ask about it or send you a letter saying “accessory buildings”
are not allowed or something to that effect

They are worried that it would be permanent

And a pod won’t trigger that worry

They will just think you’re moving .

Another vote for U-Haul truck. Cheapest option for short duration there is.

Went through something similar last summer. Tore off our 2 car side entry garage and had it rebuilt into a front entry 3 car. Stored all 4 of my "toy" cars offsite at a relatives property. Completely filled a 24 foot v nose car trailer with tools and boxes, took apart both of my 4 post lifts and stored the columns and power units in a shed and the ramps under a tarp in the back yard up on pallets. Pretty much anything that hadn't moved in 20 years went in a dumpster.

Know anyone with an enclosed car trailer they are not using for the winter?

I need to redo my shop floor. My plan is half the shop at a time.

Skip the pressure washer and rent a low speed floor buffer with a nylon-grit brush. A pressure washer uses a comparably large amount of water and it get misted all over. A slow speed buffer and brush you can clean a lot of area with a 4-5 gallons of water. and it doesn't get a bunch on mist in the air. IMO the buffer does a better job.

The first time I did my shop floor I borrowed a trailer to store my shop stuff. I still used a buffer and brush.

Could buy a couple of the temp carports from Costco & use them then sell em when done.

Rent a box truck by the day or week. Park it in your driveway, lock it up. Its the least work (move in-move out) and cheapest option for short duration there is. For probably $500 you can get thru this short term logistical issue. But it's winter and if you're anywhere in the northern half of the country, you might want to wait until spring or summer.

start at dawn , pull everything out , leave it in the driveway, get the job done then put it all back in one shot.

Only possible issue would be if someone were to figure out the truck was full of tools and steal the whole works... that would make for a bad day.

I've pondered the same thing, and some sort of carport or similar tent structure in the driveway or front yard (then sell afterwards) would work fine for me, but security could be an issue.

If thieves bothered to actually look at what they're stealing I wouldn't worry -- obscure old motorcycle parts don't convert to crack very well, and I could probably put most of all of the actual tools in the house. But they're not very smart as a rule.

I could put it in the back yard, but that's a lot further to carry stuff, and it would still be somewhat vulnerable.

PODS or similar would be a good solution, just not all that cheap.
