Teng is usually on right and is satin finish. Teng sockets are physically bigger than duralast . Plus the 45 tooth teng ratchet functions well but disappointed in the 45 tooth count. Duralast is 72 tooth. Overall duralast great buy. Teng is decent but pricey .

I could of compared to a 1/4 drive proto Blackhawk set. No contest there. Or a 1/4 USA danler made kobalt set. But I wanted it to be Taiwan vs Taiwan . I left gearwrench out cause I wanted to show how duralast beat teng with 1/3 the price and twice the sockets .

Darn saw this thread after I just placed an Amazon order for Teng tools. This thread must be lowering the Amazon pricing algorithms on Teng tools...

Just picked up a 8-19mm wrench set as an extra for $40 which seemed like a good deal. A $4 premium over Tekton for satin finish and an anti slip open end seemed like an ok trade off.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XHLJZZX/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Also picked up a breaker bar and the 3/8 spinner handle. These will be my first Teng tools and are really backups/extras with the exception of the spinner handle which are hard to come by in 3/8.

The Amazon house brand is actually SATA - identical to gearwrench & various other

Got this set of 72 tooth ratchets months ago. Zero complaints. Less then zero vs price

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07V43NCC1/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Not even good for the monbey just good period.

Amazons house brand is AmazonBasics, with a full line of hand tools labeled such.
I dont see any special affiliation between Amazon and SATA.
Just another brand with their own storefront being sold thru the massive e-commerce outlet.

I wouldn't worry too much, spinner handles and wrenches are amongst the better stuff Teng do

Never heard of or seen Tekton. I have a 1/4 drive Teng ratchet and love it. I hate my Snap-on 1/4 drive, it's too small and slippery...and these days lives in my motorcycle toolkit. I use the Teng everyday, it's the perfect length for 6mm bolts, long enough to break them free, and good feel for tightening. I might have a couple of other Teng tools, certainly not a go to...but the 1/4 drive ratchet is a keeper.

Thanks. Figured it was worth a shot. Brands always have their strong and weak products it seems. Think I am also developing a preference for satin which Teng seems to offer more options being more Euro market focused.

These are both Teng, had em years no issues, good tools

The 1/4 spinner handle I use a lot as an extension as it has a drive for a ratchet in the handle

Wrenches I would look at Stahlwille in future but the few Teng spanners I have are fine too

look at stahlwille facom and toptul for decent tools in satin chrome finish
They all have some world class tools and prices very good.
Teng prices are ridiculous and lot of the tools fall short of even part store brands .

I would agree with that, I have never actually bought any Teng tools, just acquired it over the years from other patrol vans, its just generic stuff but the few bits I have are OK to keep in the van for roadside repair kit

You can buy much better sockets and spanners for similar prices

100% agree on normal Teng pricing not being where it needs to be from a "value" perspective. Trying some of the tools out more from a novelty standpoint and the fact their pricing seems to be falling back to earth on some of their items.

Have definitely been lusting after Stahlwille after Garage journal exposure. Pulled the trigger on a set of double ring spanners from Amazon UK a while back. Shipment got lost somewhere in Europe and then Amazon pricing algorithms and exchange rates worked against me when I tried to reorder. One day I will own some Stahlwille.

I didn't know Teng made two styles of wrenches. Never seen those before. New design?

Tekton has a strong following here, largely because of their excellent customer support, including having a company rep GJ member ready to help, an easy warranty, excellent website and free shipping. Another major reason is their new offerings within the past 5-6 years, including Wilde sourced USA pliers, punches and prybars, USA screwdrivers, USA goodyear air hoses (2011?), redesigned ratchets and sockets, and most recently USA made angle wrenches and crowsfeet.
If you would have asked this question 6 years ago, the replies would have been largely negative, perhaps even comical. The tools then were all generic cheap lower quality imported goods, cookie cutter products found manufactured for many other cheap brands.
Tekton seems to be “upping the ante” here of late, and slowly improving their product quality, which is nice. As quality goes up, so does price, and it seems they are finding a balance between the two that will attract a more professional clientele, while still providing for the occasional end user.
I concur. Just got an email this morning from Tekton about their Made in USA Angle Head Wrenches. Nice to see that they're starting to make more & more of their mech tool lineup in the USA, such as the Angle Head wrenches & Crowsfeet & Pliers & Screwdrivers &c.

https://mailchi.mp/tekton/3060-angle-head-wrenches?e=08007af9f6

I only have one of their in-lb torque wrenches, which works great, but ordered a few of their wrench roll-up pouches a few months ago, and they're stout. Btw, by ordering directly from tekton.com —the roll-up pouches were $4 less than the Brazilian River price— due to Tekton's '10% back in Rewards' program, when ordering direct from Tekton.

Wrenches came in. Not sure if they are a new design as I haven’t been following Teng. Haven’t had a chance to put them through their paces.

Funky open end design. Wonder if the divot in the middle of the open end creates a weak point.

Beams are a fairly square. Carrying case is pretty nice.

Some comparison shots vs a Carlyle long and a tekton stubby

a659e577cae740ed424b06a1c1012f43.jpg

The beam profiles Carlyle on the top is thinner and more knife like. Teng is squarish. Tekton is in between.

Never realized how thick the Carlyle’s rings are

Breaker bar also came in. I like the soft grip handle.

It also says don’t break me.

Nice tools!

Anyone know why the combo wrench beams have holes in them? I didn't see it on their site...

Wonder if the divot in the middle of the open end creates a weak point.
Unlikely. It’s in the middle of the beam so doesn’t contribute significantly to stiffness or strength when torquing a fastener. Besides, it’s on the open end that should never see much torque anyway.

What does make the open end weaker is the removal of material at the centre of the jaw to give the false impression that another two fastener flats are engaged. In reality those surfaces see no load, having nothing to push against on the opposite (open) side, so they have no functional purpose. Meanwhile, stress is concentrated at the centre of the jaw and the jaw there loses material closest to the fastener, where it’s most useful for strength.

I’m sure they’ve designed and tested them to make sure they’re strong enough, but it’s still a self-inflicted mechanical weakness in exchange for a feature that clamours for attention. Teng isn’t alone in having such gimmicks, of course. Look at Wera!

Beams are a fairly square. Carrying case is pretty nice.
Possibly made by the same factory that makes Facom 440 spanners? That or they’re slavishly copying Facom ideas, albeit with small changes for the worse and a rougher finish … at a much cheaper price.

Good deal. Would be good to get a real mechanics feedback on these poor man’s facom 440s.

I've wanted the 440s for a while, but their skipping of sizes in commonly available sets was a non-starter. I used an 11mm, 1/4 drive crows-foot wrench today, I demand all sizes.

Considering swapping out the Wright Grip set I keep on my cart for the Teng, as a trial run. I'm expecting the hardest part of using these wrenches will be understanding where they fit. I think they'll be really nice for pinch bolts on lower ball joints, and removing body panels. We shall see.
