We have some minor termite damage to 1 or 2 rafter tails on the front of our home. What is the best and cleanest way to replacement them?

The termite company that showed them to be, well I would think there experience is in pest control not making the rafter replacement look professional.

Is sistering them the best way?

Photos or recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Thank you

We had some rafter rot fixed (prior owner let gutters fill completely up), and the roofer sistered 4' sections on to provide support and a nailing surface for the soffit.

Minor surface damage can be fixed with bondo. Google epoxy injection as well. It's messy but it's a viable solution. Sistering looks bulky. I like to cut out the tail and run a broomstick dowel more than a foot into the existing and glue the hell out of the dowel and the replacement piece. I've even done beams that were lookouts this way using multiple dowels.

Rafter tails had termites but nothing else? How'd they get there without damaging top plate or other wood items?

Are the rafter tails exposed, or are they covered up with a fascia and soffit? If covered, sistering on a new piece will be easiest.

Post some pics if you can. My example may or may not be helpful. I had some dry rot and when I had my roof redone they cut off the bad, added a new piece then sistered another next to it, running the whole length. It looks fine and is solid - see pic below. One of these days I'll get around to painting the underside...
