Termite spray before Slab pour

In south Eastern VA termites can get bad and my bug guy recommended Pre treating the ground before pouring the slab.

I use Talstar pro to treat permitted throughout the year. Will that work or do you have a better recommendation? Thanks

My buddy's county inspector said he MUST HAVE termite protection before his new building could be erected. The lady at the permit office couldn't understand why he balked at the mandate because his building is STEEL!

I thought the thinking was treating under the slab eventually doesn't make a difference when it comes to re-treat. Unless you are planning on drilling slab. I would think going around the outside would be sufficient.

Taurus SC is good stuff. For retreat, drill and inject around the inside perimeter and trench around the outside perimeter. As I recall, instructions say retreat every 10 years, I do it every 5 or 6 in NC mostly because the grading around the house is not perfect.

It seems logical to me that you’d treat any cracks in the slab, so I do, but most do not.

I’ve heard that there is a specific size sand that subterranean termites can’t dig through, haven’t had an opportunity to figure out how to take advantage of this.

I use Talstar P mostly for pretreat under slab, the label spells out how to use it, makes sure you calibrate your spray equipment to deliver the right amount. More is not better, but you don't want to miss anything. It requires some hand holding with the GC to apply the day before the cement truck show up to pour, but that's how I like to do it. Indiana requires licensing and notification to the State Chemist for pretreat, but not for conventional post construction treatment, you might check out your states pesticide agency for any hoops to jump through. Occasionally I'll use Termidor HE with a trench around the building after grade is done, it works wonderfully and is chemically stable longer than the Talstar, but is a top shelf product and can cost more depending on the footprint of the building.

We pretreated before the pour, but also before the pour had perforated tubing laid down, terminating in 3 hose connections in one end of the stem wall. Now we can have the bug man saturate under the slab at any time. We do about every 3 years. Takes about 80 gallons of Termidor. This being AZ, the Termidor application brings up some very large and scary looking creatures, like this Giant Desert Centipede. This guy was actually a full 9" long, but took 1.5 cans of wasp and hornet spray before this pic was taken.

Another reason I will suffer with high taxes, traffic and cold weather in the northeast!!!
