Gentlemen,

Does anyone know much about treatment of the foundation before or after the slab is poured. I really don't want to call a "professional" out to have it sprayed as they would want a contract. I need a "git'r done" solution.

Holla back ya'll:spit:

Not sure it is something a do it yourselfer can do. I am unsure if you can get a hold of the chemicals for yourself. I know here in Florida you have to have the area treated before the pad goes down. The only exception to this is if you are building a steel building, if you have a smart inspector, he will usually wave this. As I recall, it was not very expensive, a few hundred i think, and as for the contract, just tell them no thanks. If they don't want your business they will tell you.

don`t use permethrin..it dosn`t have any staying power..nicotine base... chlordane , heptachlor, and dieldrin..are outlawed..expect to pay aabout .85 to 1.00 per sq ft of your slab...500 sq ft...500 dollar....that`s not high in today`s world...if you want cheep...you get cheep...cheep means permethrin...won`t last...

DDT and Boric Acid are best home remedies for termites. When termites eat your house, you don’t notice a thing. You don’t hear a thing, you don’t see a thing—you’re house stands there, silent and staid, while you and your family happily go about your days, without a care in the world—until your house crashes on top of your head.

We've bought it at Ace before and used a pump up sprayer to apply. Have also mixed it
in a trash can and used an electric sump pump and garden hose to apply.

A termite barrier would provide another layer of protection against ground termites. The barrier is made of sand about 16 grit and roughly 4 inches thick. The sand barrier is placed before the slab is poured. A google search on the termite barrier should provide more info. I hope this helps.

Alternatively you could treat your framing instead of the slab. I paid $80 for a 5 gallon bucket of timbor which when mixed is enough to treat an entire house.

I had to have mine sprayed prior to my foundation inspection. The building inspector wanted to see the paperwork from the pest control company before signing off on it.

Try to find an independent pest control company. I had a site sprayed before pouring footings and after stem walls were back filled. It has been five years and cost was about $100.

I had our framing treated during the build Termite warranty is about $150 a year to renew. Well worth it in my opinion.

Previous house had a termite warranty and did get infested. Warranty saved us a ton of money.

If you are worried that much about termites, I would get a couple hundred pounds of boric acid and till it into the ground in the surrounding area...and lay it in heavy right at the foundation/slab.
