Testing a generator question

Hello, I've been working on a MEP 018A military generator. It has single & three phase settings. The 240v and three phase power outlet has a five plug connector.

I was wondering if there's a way to adapt the plug to test the power/voltage settings?

The matching plug end is $200.

get you a manual for that piece of equiptment...if not properly grounded, and your not familiar with it, it will kill you...

Yes you can get a three phase twist lock plug (I have one on my MEP-004A) or you can use single phase twist locks for single phase hookups.

thats a pin and sleeve connector, expect to pay $60-$120 for one unless you get lucky and find the right one on ebay or something. i would wire the output of the generator into a small 3R 3ph loadcenter, and install a couple twistlock and straight blade receptacles.

Remove the plug and hard wire for now. Probably a terminal strip somewhere or you can simply wire nut in the box.

Be sure to test the voltage with the generator at least somewhat loaded. That will give you an idea of how the regulator is doing. To determine the actual "health", you'll need to load the generator, either with a load bank specifically for testing things like generators, or stick a bunch of resistance on it like several heaters. The coils are made to be balanced approximately equally, so do not load up one leg to full power alone.
