When I was 17 I worked for awhile on the gas "island" at our local Sears. The pumps were truly on islands that were at a higher elevation than the concrete the cars drove on. Maybe 6" to 8" higher. Between these concrete islands and the concrete driving surface was expansion material that was some kind of semi soft rubber about an inch thick. We called them the "gums" and we were required to periodically scrub them with Comet cleanser to keep them white!

I can't imagine anyone requiring such a thing of a pump jockey these days. Hell, I doubt anyone but Sears required it even back then. All this story just to tell you your pumps made me go back to look to see if they'd be mounted on raised islands and whether they had these gums, ha ha. The pumps look great by the way. I'm very impressed!
