Between 485 & 705 SQ/FT Texas Casita

First Post!!

I have been watching the forum for a while and have learned a great deal from you guys! Thanks!!

We just recently moved to San Antonio and part of the requirements for our new house was a Shop/Pool House/Guest Suite/Playroom. We decided to call it the Casita (tiny house).

It is 23x23 and the first floor is all mine-- will be my shop-- the upstairs will be a multipurpose room with a bathroom, TV, Sleeper couch, etc.

For my shop I plan to make it nice-- epoxy floors, AC, Drywall, etc-- you guys have helped with the decisions there!

The exterior stairs is a Texas tradition called a "Sunday House".

So... here is my first post and will update more in a bit--

Thanks for the comments! I am the type of guy who enjoys everything about DIY— I enjoy wood working, restoring classic cars, welding, masonry— pretty much everything that I can learn and leverage.

For example, I never had experience with masonry so I built a pizza oven that worked amazingly well.

I wanted to build an engine so I decided to build a really hot Corvair engine and learned a ton— aside from my family nothing gives me more joy than learning something and seeing the end state product!

I wanted to post some additional pictures of my Texas Casita as we are making progress--- exciting for me to see it happen!

In the pictures we have made it through the framing and are starting to get things dried in. Next comes siding and we are doing "board and batten" using the LP Smartside product. After siding comes the electrical rough and the adding the battens.

Things are moving fast and so far I am really pleased with my contractor!

Done anything fun with your space yet? Hopefully it weathered the "snowpocalypse" of this year without damage. I'm out by Leon Springs on the NW side of town. Glad you got everything dried in before this year of unbearable moisture.

Thanks! I finally got her done and couldn’t be more happy with how it turned out. It is a shop on the first floor and a guest suite, man cave on the top floor. Did 2 Mr. Cool 18k units and it keeps both spots nice and cool. Also used Legacy Industrial’s Delta Dye on the floors and very pleased with it as well. We’ve had lots of fun out there and look forward to many years of enjoyment to come.

If you are building my advice is to enjoy the process and make it a spot you will enjoy!

Trying to figure out where to mount my Wilton vice—- any suggestions?

Your place came out very nice.
I had a big vice mounted on a work bench for years, about 5 years ago I mounted it on a pedestal welded to a large slice of 14 inch pipe, then I filled the base with cement, some use a large truck wheel.
I still need to put wheels on it, I like the ability to have the vice go where I need it rather the need to go to the vice location.
