Hello to all. First, I would like to say that I have really enjoyed reading tons of your post about your shops. People are so creative with what can gets accomplished in their shops. Thanks for all the great stories and most of all the great ideas!!!!

I purchased my house 16 years ago with the full intentions of building my dream shop. I had just completed a restoration on a '69 camaro (well never completed) but, street worthy, ready to hit the car show circuit and was ready to build the new shop. Life decided that I needed to go a different course and after raising two girls into thier teenage years, my wife discovered that we would be blessed with our third child. A son. So, the shop got put on the back burner and life went on. Now, as I'm nearly the big 5-0, the wife and I have decided that if I'm going to get a shop and have time to enjoy it that now is the time. YES!!!!!!!! It's Finally My Turn.

A little info on my property. I live in the country, no permits/city inspections will be required. I have one acre of land, relative square plot of land. I have a circular driveway in front and a long drive down one side that enters into a two car garage. The new shop will be located at the end of the driveway. The shop will be a metal 30 X 40 X 12 insulated with a 20 X 40 covered car port on the front. Two 10 X 10 doors , 7 windows and 2 man doors. Plan to install a lift. Build a small bathroom. Plenty of cabinets, work benches and storage. A new fence with a 10 foot gate will be installed at the end of the driveway seperating the front and back yard.

Today was the first day of the build, the first step to getting the shop built.
At the end of the drive in front of the garage, a major water problem has existed for years. The driveway holds water really bad. So, the first step was to have the cement cut up and hauled off. Accomplished! Also, removed the chain link fence that separated the front/back yard. Installed a temporary fence to keep the dogs in the back yard.

I will be renting a ditch witch this weekend and will be installing the electical feed from the shop pad to the house and will be doing a little sprinkler system work on the opposite side of the property to complete the the partial sprinkler system that I installed several years back. I will also run the new water line to feed the shop. Along with cable to have DirecTV in the shop.

I'll post pictures tomorrow. Time to go to bed, early day awaits tomorrow and it's really hot here right now.

Nighttrain- I am actually located in the metroplex a little East of Fort Worth. My water retention problem was due to a terrible original driveway pour. The smallest rain storm would cause the driveway to hold several inches of water. For years I have had to remove the water by pumping it. So looking forward to getting this problem solved.

Day 2- Most of the day spent locating underground wires, water lines and escavating under sidewalks. Preparing for arrival of ditch witch tomorrow. Will spend most of the day ditching and laying electrical, water, drains and sprinkler system. I've posted some pictures from day 1 showing the cutting and removal of driveway.

It's been a few days since I've been able to post. Put a lot of hours in ditching to run electrical service, water, drains and installing sprinkler in the front yard. Contractor was on building site yesterday and shot elevation for driveway drain to existing drain in backyard. Results are in my favor, we should be able to install gravity fed drain to resolve drainage problem. Tomorrow driveway and shop pad will all be graded. Scheduled to have forms set next Tuesday and all cement work on Wednesday. Should have sprinkler system completely covered back up by this weekend. It's so hot and dry, looks like no fireworks show for upcoming holiday!

Awesome. Who is your contractor?

I am in Aledo and about to start my own 24X30. Will be removing trees next week. I found a guy out of Burleson that is good on price and has built 3 friend's garages.

Awesome. They are going to be doing mine as well. I have seen several of their buildings...they do good work.

I am in the stage of clearing trees, then I'll be working on sprinklers and such...then they can get to work doing their thing.

Been several busy days finishing the sprinkler system. The pad was prepared this past Wednesday. Had a visit from the owner of the business to discuss my options of moving the water off the driveway. After a good hour and a half discussion with the Bob Cat Operator, his helper, the dump truck driver and the owner it was decided to flow the water off the back end of my property. Decided not to use a drain.

Build site was graded and i must say - a shout out to Cody (Bob Cat Operator) for his insight and special attention to making sure we solve the drian issue. He did a fantastic job. I can already see the water flowing away from my driveway and shop. Yes Sir!!!
One mishap - During the discussion when Cody was asked to join in the conversation. He parked his Bob Cat parallel to the dump truck. Sometime during our discussion, the dump truck driver decided to leave and the Cat's bucket was in the path and pop the rear tire. It took an additional hour and a half to get the tire repaired. Oh well, all in a days worth of construction.

Today was a very productive day. The crew was here this morning to set the forms. It was a full days work and they still have a little bit of work to finish in front of the garage. They will be back at 6 am to finish the rebar and we are scheduled for a early morning pour. Can't wait. More pics to come tomorrow.

Ready to get underway

Going to bed. Cement is being poured at 6 AM! I'm having a hard time uploading pictures. It takes a really long time for my pictures to upload. Can anyone help me out? Am I doing something wrong? If anyone can help me fix this I'd really appreciate it!

7-10 days until the building construction begins. Progress so far has gone close to plan. Plans over the next couple of weeks are to pull the elect wire for the main hook up, move/spread dirt around foundation and back fill sprinkler trenches as needed. Four days left of vacation. Lot has gotten done but a ton more to do. it has been fun. More to come......

Sure do! I see that Aledo concrete truck around town quite a bit.

Good to see them pumping concrete a long way. I was concerned they would not be able to get back to where my slab will go.
