Hi folks,

I have been hanging out on the H.A.M.B. for a little while now and recently became aware of this forum. I was raised in Livonia MI outside of Detroit, and have always had a love for anything with wheels on it. Moved to south Texas to find work about 28 years ago, caught a good gig and stayed.

I’m also an avid woodworker, and my favorite project is my 24x36 workshop with ten foot side walls, twelve foot vaulted ceiling 10x24 covered extension on one side, and 8x36 covered extension on the other. It is fully insulated, has a heat pump for a/c and heat, 240v, backup generator, hot/cold running water, frige…

I built every stick of the shop myself including digging the foundation, tying the rebar, setting the forms, (I had a professional actually do the pour). I did the framing, siding, roofing, insulation, plumbing, wiring, interior and exterior finishing. Having never done any real construction, I made a lot of mistakes, but learned a whole lot. As I said, it’s my favorite project, and it will probably never be finished.

During hurricane Ike, it withstood 100+ sustained winds for more than twelve hours with not a single problem. My house on the other hand didn’t fare so well, so I moved into the shop for a couple of weeks until the roof on the house was fixed, and the public power was restored.

Normally, the shop is the home of my 41 GMC pickup which is also a never ending project, but I often manage to get the truck together enough to drive for a while and while it is running, it sits under one of the outside extensions while I work on a cabinet or furniture project.

Anyway, sorry for running on, but as you can probably tell, I love my shop!

Welcome!

That shop looks good from the outside.

Now you need to share with us some pictures of the treasures on the inside. ;)
