Very catchy name, right to the point you have really created a very nice building and space. I am subscribing. Your planning and insight are perfect, I also like the ceiling height. Is there a lift in your future?

The lighted letters look fantastic  care to share where you got them. Really liking the whole build

The metal letters are from hobby lobby. I cut out some plywood backers the same shape but like a 1/4" smaller. I then stapled the shortest runs of LED Christmas lights to the back of them.

I like the layout of your garage, and the night lighting just takes it over the top. I love those backlit letters along with the barn lighting.:thumbup:

What type of doors are you going to put on, and are you going to have a gas pump out front? You also need a Texaco star somewhere either above or below the "Garage"

I would love a gas pump, but that is down the list of goodies. The doors will be built carriage doors that will get started this week. I think I am going to do a single window, not with mullions.

Well, a little more progress has been made. We have started the storage room within the main portion (will house the air compressor and engine stand, engine hoist) as well as provide me with an overhead storage area.

Also have the first of the doors dry fit and ready for the next step.

I'm really liking the look of those doors you have started

X 2 ^

Are those laminated 1x's? Where did you buy your lumber? When I checked 1x prices at Lowes and HD, they were almost a much as a 2x. Those are gonna look really nice.

And thanks for the Hobby Lobby note, I checked and guess what they don't offer a U...but they do offer some flat galv letters in more fonts that would work for me,. thanks again

Yes, it is 3-ply 1x's. top, mid and sides are 1x8's. The bottom is 1x10. the middle ply is one nominal size smaller to create the required dado in the pieces. We looked at the @x stuff, but was worried about the twisting / warping of the 2x material.

Nice work, very nice. Interested in seeing how you bond it all together. What will you be using in the inset panels?
I am in the process of building 3 sets (yea 6 doors) and am half lapping 2x cedar and spruce and cladding with 3/4 T&G salvaged beadboard on the interior and corrugated tin on the exterior. I like your technique as cutting 72 half laps with a circular saw was hell on my arthritic finger joints.

Thanks for sharing!!

Well, Friday and Saturday were big days in the shop. Friday night we glued together the door in preparation for hanging it Saturday. All went really smooth actually. Saturday we stood it up and laid it down like seven times be for the final hanging. Few little adjustments, installing the hinges, drilling the pegs and what, nothing major, and the first of the doors was hung.

Couple pics. The doors alone and then one with my dad (who's my carpenter and mind behind them. He's like 5'-9" or so for scale). Its not terribly heavy and swings beautifully!

We now have one set of doors completed and installed. Already started building on the next set. This one went up WAY faster than the first one.

Having my dad around for the winter and giving him a job keeps it moving along. I am trying to get it secure before they head back to Michigan, as we have a coupe project that I want tore down so we can discuss the plan while he's still in town.

Thanks for the kind words.

Well, another weekend therefore the last door was hung. Of course there are still the accessories to install (inside latches, handles, etc..) but its hung!
