Hi guys,
So I grew tired of seeing my toys baking in the sun, taking baths and freezing, so I decided to scratch a long-time "need" off my list give them a home. The slab is poured and materials are in and though it's pouring outside right now, the framers are on their way.
I figure it's time to start documenting and hopefully get some input and ideas along the way.

Details: 30'x40' stick and brick, same as house composition and used for toy storage, workshop, bonus/man cave/work out room and attic storage.

Floor 1 far right side will be the workshop/bench(es) area.
Floor 1 left side will be the boat bay and right bay will be for the UTV.
Floor 1 rear will be for hanging tools, etc. and the JD tractor bay.
Stairs will be floating from Fast-Stairs.com that should arrive this Wednesday that should save me some space and give a good industrial look. I'll likely use plumbing pipe or something similar for rails.
I'll put in a 750# 4'x8' attic lift from www.theatticlift.com to the 2nd floor storage area.
It'll have 200A dedicated service for whatever current and future needs arise. Left outside rear will have a 50amp RV plug and water but since the garage is sitting on bedrock, I couldn't get a dump station put in for a feasible cost.

I'm using open web trusses and am thinking about leaving them open and painting for an industrial look and general flexibility of hanging light things on, etc. Anyone have thoughts on this?
All ideas, thoughts, questions, issues, critique are welcome!

If you are shooting for industrial look, you missed. I respect the amount of gingerbread you have included to match the house. I am unsure if I will commit the coin on mine. Nice place but needs a fence. I want a 12/12 pitch and demand a level floor. My casual talks with builders have met with immediate push back from local builders.

House looks like Plano. Dirt looks like Austin or San Antonio. Texas is a nice normal sized state and I am curious where your part calls home.

Your JD must be closer to a riding lawnmower. I see an attached garage. I bet the weed Wacker is kept elsewhere. Are you just deciding on wrench spinning vs. welding and machining? I am seeing a man cave.

I am most interested in heating /cooling, organized storage, noise control, flooring, lighting, and simplified cleaning. Your design professional scatter any pearls?

Yeah the elevation (with HOA input) isn't industrial but floor 1 will be. We're in Aledo which is about 15mi W of Fort Worth. The fence is next on the list with some in the neighborhood having fences and some not.
My JD is a 2025R 25hp which is perfect size for a 5ac spread and the deer lease with 60" belly mower, box blade, bush hog and FEL. The weed whacker and the zero turn is in the attached garage but both will be moved to the detached. That's another reason to build the detached. Too many tools on almost every wall in the attached.
The wife re-finishes wood furniture and the like, I do minor wrench spinning and will likely take up a little wood working.
I'll set up part of the bench for some gunsmithing too.
The only HVAC will be upstairs in the finished room.
I haven't finalized the power, organized storage and lighting. Just have ideas for super bright LEDs, tracking lighting in key areas, mounted compressor and extension cord reel.
On the design pro, he just drew what I told him to and I'll with no pearls added.
This started out as a metal building but grew into the this thing. I just didn't like the idea of the metal skin and wanted more flexibility all the way around.

For your industrial look inside the shop, maybe painting the beams / ceiling black? Might need to up the lighting a bit, but it can sure look good. There is a build here somewhere where the guy painted his black and then light colored walls below. Really draws your eyes down where they should be and gave it a nice almost outdoor feeling. I will see if I can find the link. I would say try the open beam thing and then you can clad it later if you don't like it.

Do you need an insulated floor for the living space? That might affect your open beam look as well.

Looks like it going to be a very nice toy shop.

Thanks. I was actually thinking about the black look with lighter walls. I've been in restaurants, churches, etc. where it's been done that way and it looks good.
I have been thinking about the insulation issue re: the room above if I keep the ceiling open. This will likely not make that much of a difference, but the exterior sheathing is ZipWall that I'll foam in the interior gaps, and the roof is radiant barrier. I'll put in the insulation inserts in the garage door. The question is whether the floor not being insulated will have that much of an appreciable effect on that rooms ability to keep steady temps without breaking the bank. The unit will be 1.5 to 2 ton. I would love some insulation ideas around this.
