What would you take with you on a journey/holiday (by car) and you need to keep it light.

Mine would be:

Knipex 86 03 250
Grip wrench (no idea where it's made, it only says Cr-V 8067144 HB-Services GmbH)
Bahco 8070 150mm
Knipex 03-160 VDE
Knipex 74 02 180
Belzer 7407 H0/5 Bitholder + bits

All 2.35 kg.

A big hammer

Jk. I haven't been able to tone it down to a "small" package like you have... But I drive a 1 ton so I have plenty of room.

For any modern vehicle the first thing would be a code scanner/reader. The second thing would be a cell phone. After that it would be a good flashlight.

(I can't understand why the manufacturers don't provide code reading capability in standard automotive electronics like a display in the audio system.)

After that it would be tire/wheel related tools. (jack, lug nut wrench, can of slime, mini 12V compressor, etc)

There's usually not a whole lot you can do with those tools so they'd be down on my list.

Depends on the vehicle Im taking. My girlfriends hundai a decent jack, cross wrench(for lug nuts), plugs, an air compressor, and a headlamp.

In my truck, a lot more because everything is already in my in bed tool box. Including everything mentioned above, wrenches and sockets, plus recovery gear and rain gear. theres a lot more in there.

Outside of tire tools just a cell phone. I pay a couple bucks for towing on my insurance and it's worth every penny

I wouldn't take anything else than my Leatherman Supertool.Chances are if I took a whole box of stuff i'd still be missing something critical and be fu**ed anyways.

Well, a couple of years ago we've rented an apartment for a couple of weeks in Spain. When we arrived, we picked up the key and drove there. Later that night when I took a shower, that thingy that held the showerhead broke down.

If I had a wrench, I could have fix it I think. But then, I had no tools in the car so I had to wait till next morning to have it fixed.

Since then I always have some tools in the car just in case...

Ah leatherman yes... goes everywhere I go :bounce::bounce::bounce:

I've got one of those Craftsman Mechanics tool sets, I pull the trays out of my big toolbox and put them back in the custom toolbox when I go offroading. It works but it takes up alot of space.

Great thread idea! I'm surprised nobody has mentioned zip ties; obviously not for a permanent fix, but they've gotten us by in a pinch. I'll have to sit down and post up my list when I have a moment.

A roll of electrical tape; wire strippers, 12 v compressor, mushroom plug kit, flashlight and a phone.
I only keep the tape and strippers in there because I had a clutch interlock break on me once when I was 16. Didn't know what the hell to do. Thought about it a minute; realized I heard plastic break. Looked under and saw the interlock broken; cut the wires and taped them together. Been 10-12 years like that.
Most problems that would put It down mechanically would require a wrecker; electrical I can fudge without keeping a bunch of stuff in the truck.

Low profile craftsman box sits behind the seat. Have used it more helping others out than on my own cars. Last being a elderly couple's car wouldn't start, found a loose battery cable and was able to tighten it and get them back on the road. I know I won't be re-building my transmission in the wal mart parking lot but I have piece of mind knowing I can take care of the little things.

Both cars I have tend to always need the same things.
My wife is using my VW, so she gets no tools but jumper cables, tire inflator and qt. of oil. We got AAA and smartphones.

On my Mercedes a ratchet, extensions, 6-22mm sockets, 8-19 wrenches, pliers, some fuel return line, fuses, ATF, coolant, oil, under hood light, globes, knife.
Pics soon.

That's what I'm taking about! Organized and beautiful ( it's ok to call a box beautiful right?) my truck box looks nothing like that and my car bag is a small tool bag with about 30lbs of essentials - big hammer and ziptys are in it for sure!

That's brilliant! I've added the zip ties to my travel kit.

This is the full uncensored version travel kit of mine :D
