When I first became a member of this board I was not to sure about the policy on posting about politics in the Free Parking section. I will admit to feeling at times the moderators were a bit heavy handed, and will also confess to getting myself into some arguments I should have stayed out of.

Now I cannot express how thankful I am for this place. I don't need to tell you that outside of this forum politics is everywhere. When I logged in Wednesday morning and there were no political threads, I saw the light of Ryan's genius.

Admittedly there are still a few that don't get it, and insist on making political posts, but thankfully they are few and far between. I just want to say thanks to Ryan, the other admins, and fellow members for keeping this a political free zone. This place has become a real haven for me the last few days.

X2. Thanks, guys! I had a recent ban for something I said that I didn't even mean to be a political statement. After some conversation with the Mods I realized what I had done and I stated I completely understood what happened and why. It's not easy keeping this site running smoothly and the guys do a great job!

Total agreement! I love to discuss politics and religion. But I love GJ just like this! As others have said we can all find political conversations in plenty of other places. Let's keep this place just guys hanging out in the garage.

Its refreshing from a lot of the other forums I am on and it is also self policing for the most part. We are all just a bunch of people hanging out in the big garage of the internet. Check the politics and religion at the door and grab your favorite beverage and enjoy the company of friends.

My assumption has been that a forum called Garage Journal would mainly be filled with members who come from "flyover states" and hold to old, tested, evergreen truths in life, religion, politics, etc. I do see the wisdom in cutting off all these threads because they do seem to inflame some members and they quickly devolve into anonymous shouting matches spanning the whole globe.

I have to adjust my thinking and realize this isn't a digital back porch where conversation can cover all these non-PC topics. It's just too large. It's an organization and not really an organism.

Within that context, GJ is a great place! I'm always learning and laughing. Members have saved my bacon in many tight spots. Thank you for this forum! Maybe I just long for the days when spirited discussion didn't come with the threat of a ban hammer or a closed thread, "just in case."

Rules are rules. I like what's good here too much to try to impose my will.

Really, this place is a digital version of Ryan's living room and he's invited us in. So, it's his house, his rules - simple as that.

Rules are rules and if you want to be anywhere, you need to play by the rules of the house. Not that hard to do as long as everyone knows the rules.

Years ago I made a religious point in a post and it started a **** storm. I was new to forums and didn't know the rule here. I apologized to all who complained and played by the rules ever since.

Lol. Lots of reasons for this thread, one of them being that my wife just left her quilting forum because she was tired of the political nonsense. Apparently someone posted a quilt block and all hell broke loose ... :shocking:

This topic should stand as a warning to those wanting to spoil it for others. We can all see topics like that are not what this forum is about. You post some thing like that you are looking at having your access to the forum removed.

A reminder to please report a topic that is breaking the rules and not to post to it.

Now darwyn, you and I both know that your wife got banned for her inappropriate quilting patterns.

Yep....with all of the political **** going on everywhere, this is a safe place to escape it. A breath of fresh air so to speak. Just like needing eye bleach to get rid of ugly on the eye, this is political bleach to wash all of the political out. Got to go see cars now, got to go see car, repeat after me....cars, cars, cars, girls, cars, girls and cars, wrenches, girls and wrenches, cars and girls and wrenches.........

ha ha .... prime example of how politics can soil things, even a centuries old symbol of good luck.

This forum is definitely a great place to hang out, laugh at the often hilarious banter, learn some new things, and swap stories. It's a nice place to get away from the "noise" going on elsewhere.
Now where did I leave my ratchet tie down for my trailer hitch? :D

Locked.

I'm fine with no politics and no religion and even some name calling being locked or deleted.
But if this was locked because I called open range horses vermin, that's an agenda.
I'd like this place to be agenda free.

I didn't get it either. I assumed someone posted something bad, so the post was removed & the thread locked.
